Fred Reid was born on March 16, 1982. He is a well-known running backs coach for the Ottawa Redblacks. This team plays in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Before becoming a coach, Fred Reid was a professional gridiron football player. He was a running back, mostly playing for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He first joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2005. He played college football at Mississippi State University.

College Football Career
Fred Reid played college football for four years at Mississippi State University. During his time there, he ran for almost 1,000 yards. He also caught the ball for over 300 yards.
He became a top kick returner in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). He returned kicks for more than 1,300 yards. In his final year, 2004, he helped his team win their first game. This was special because their coach, Sylvester Croom, was the first African American head coach in the SEC.
Professional Playing Career
Starting in the NFL
After college, Fred Reid was not chosen in the 2005 NFL draft. However, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed him soon after. He was with the team for a short time before being released.
Mississippi MudCats
In 2007, Reid played for the Mississippi MudCats. This team was part of the American Indoor Football Association.
Playing for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Fred Reid joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2007. This was after a teammate suggested him. In his first year, he played in all 18 regular-season games. He ran for 270 yards and scored two touchdowns. He even started two games when another player was injured. He also returned kickoffs. He played in all of Winnipeg's playoff games, including the Grey Cup.
In his second year, 2008, he ran for 709 yards. He scored three touchdowns. After this great season, he was named an all-star.
Reid signed a new contract with the Blue Bombers in 2009. He was expected to share playing time with other running backs. On August 21, 2009, he set a new team record. He ran for 260 yards in one game! This broke the old record of 249 yards.
In the 2010 CFL season, Fred Reid led the entire league in rushing yards. He gained 1,396 yards that year. After playing five seasons with the Blue Bombers, he left the team in 2012.
Coaching Career
Toronto Argonauts Coach
On February 6, 2020, Fred Reid became the running backs coach for the Toronto Argonauts. The 2020 CFL season was cancelled, but he continued coaching in 2021. He left the Argonauts after that season.
Ottawa Redblacks Coach
On March 11, 2022, Reid joined the Ottawa Redblacks as their running backs coach. This move brought him back together with his former coach, Paul LaPolice.
