Career Journey
Starting with Hip Hop
When he started his career, Warmsley used the name Lee Bannon. From 2010 to 2012, he released his own collections of beats, which got him noticed. This led to him working with rappers from California like Souls of Mischief and the producer The Alchemist.
Soon after, he met Joey Bada$$ and the music group Pro Era. In 2012, Bannon became Pro Era's touring DJ. He also produced songs for Joey Bada$$'s mixtape Summer Knights. On November 2, 2012, he even performed on the TV show Late Night with Jimmy Fallon with Joey Bada$$ and the famous band The Roots.
Exploring New Sounds
After working with Pro Era, Warmsley wanted to try something new. He began making more experimental music on his own. In June 2013, he released music with a style influenced by jungle and drum and bass. This new sound got a lot of attention. Spin magazine named him one of the 5 Best New Artists for July 2013.
This led to him signing with the British record label Ninja Tune. On January 9, 2014, he released his first big album, Alternate/Endings. The album was a success, and Rolling Stone magazine named it one of the best electronic albums of the year.
Changing Names and Styles
In 2015, Warmsley decided to change his music style again. He announced a new album, Pattern of Excel, which was made up of mostly ambient music. Ambient music often creates a mood or atmosphere with its sound.
On May 26, 2015, he posted a note on his Instagram page. He said he was changing his name from Lee Bannon to "¬ b", which means "not Bannon." He felt that the name Lee Bannon was connected to the music he made when he was younger and wanted to move in a new direction. Pattern of Excel was his last album as Lee Bannon.
Becoming Dedekind Cut
Warmsley didn't stick with the name ¬ b for long. On September 9, 2015, he released new music under the name Dedekind Cut. He released an extended play called American Zen in 2016, which was described as "new age" music with "chilling cinematic sound design."
On November 11, 2016, he released his first full studio album as Dedekind Cut. It was titled $uccessor.
In 2018, Warmsley used another name, Barrio Sur, to release a rock-inspired mixtape. He dedicated the mixtape to a performer from his hometown of Sacramento.
