A Look Back: The History of Friend
How Friend Got Its Name
Friend wasn't always called Friend! It was first named McCue. This name honored Basil M. McCue. He was from Hastings, Nebraska, and he helped start the Garden City Gulf & Northern Railroad.
Later, the Santa Fe Railroad took over the railway line. This line connected Garden City and Scott City. When the Santa Fe Railroad took charge, they decided to change the name of the community to Friend.
Post Office Changes
For many years, Friend had its own post office. This was a place where people could send and receive mail. However, the post office in Friend eventually closed down in 1992.
