Where the Fringed Spineflower Grows
The fringed spineflower is special because it only grows in certain areas. It is found only in the San Jacinto Mountains and the Peninsular Ranges. These areas are located in Southern California and Baja California.
Preferred Habitats
This plant likes to grow in specific natural environments. You can find it in coastal sage areas. It also thrives in mountain chaparral and woodlands. It typically grows at elevations below 1,600 meters (about 5,250 feet).
What the Fringed Spineflower Looks Like
The Chorizanthe fimbriata plant is quite low to the ground. It usually grows between 10 and 50 centimeters (4 to 20 inches) tall. It can spread out quite a bit, covering an area from 1 to 3.5 meters (3 to 11.5 feet) wide.
