A Glimpse into History
Fritztown has a cool history, especially when it comes to making socks! On January 1, 1907, a man named William G. Leininger started a hosiery mill here. A hosiery mill is a factory that makes socks and stockings. This mill, called The Railroad Sock, was located at 5 Old Wernersville Road. Back then, it could produce 200 dozen pairs of socks every single day! That's a lot of socks! William G. Leininger also ran other factories in Berks County, including one in Mohnton. This information comes from local historian Paul Miller, who is part of the Sinking Spring Area Historical Society.
