Frog is a small, unincorporated community in Kaufman County, located in the U.S. state of Texas. This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It's found within the large Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex area.
A Look Back: Frog's History
Frog was started by African-American families in the late 1800s. Some of the first people who lived here worked on the railroad. Families like the Stephens and Starling families were among the earliest settlers in the area.
Around the late 1930s and early 1940s, Frog had a local store and two churches. One church was for the Pentecostal faith, and the other for Baptists. At that time, there were 36 homes in the community. Interestingly, 28 of these homes belonged to members of the same large family!
Many new people moved to the Frog area in 1990. While the Baptist church later moved to Terrell, the Pentecostal church, which began around 1919 or 1920, still holds services today. Many residents in Frog continue to farm for a living. The community was actually named after a person, not the amphibian!
Where is Frog?
Frog is located on Farm to Market Road 316. This road is just south of U.S. Highway 80. The community is about one mile east of Elmo and about seven miles east of Terrell. All these places are in Kaufman County.
Learning in Frog
In the late 1930s and early 1940s, Frog had its very own school. Today, students living in Frog attend schools that are part of the Kaufman Independent School District.
