Fry Group Foods is a company that makes tasty plant-based foods, often called meat substitutes. These foods are made without any meat, eggs, or dairy. The company was started by Wally and Debbie Fry in South Africa in 1991. In 2020, Fry Group Foods became part of a bigger plant-based food company called LiveKindly Collective.

How Fry's Food Started

Wally Fry used to eat meat and even traded farm animals for a living. But then, he saw how animals were kept on a pig farm that his own company helped build. This made him think differently. His wife, Debbie, and daughter, Tammy, were already vegetarian or vegan. Wally decided to try a meat-free diet too.

To help Wally get used to eating no meat, he and Debbie started making their own meat substitutes at home in Durban. Their friends and family loved these new foods! Because so many people wanted them, Wally and Debbie decided to start a company in 1991 to make these plant-based foods for everyone.

Growing a New Food Market

When Fry Group Foods began, not many people in South Africa were looking for vegan food. So, the company had to be very creative. They had to invent new ways to make and sell their products. Fry's also worked hard to teach people about eating more plant-based foods. They supported campaigns like Meat-Free Monday and Veganuary, which encourage people to try vegan meals.

Where Fry's Foods Are Made and Sold

In 1998, Fry Group Foods started sending its products from South Africa to other countries, like Australia. Since 2014, the company's main office has been in Australia.

As of 2018, Fry's frozen food products were sold in over 30 countries! They are made in a special factory in Durban, South Africa, and also by another company in Cornwall, England. You can find their products in big supermarkets and other shops around the world. After joining LIVEKINDLY Collective in 2020, Fry's foods became available in even more places. Today, their biggest markets are South Africa, the United Kingdom, and Australia.

What Kinds of Products Fry's Makes

When Fry Group Foods first started, they only made a few basic items. These included plant-based sausages, hot dogs, and burger patties.

Now, in 2023, Fry's makes more than 40 different products! Their range includes things like plant-based schnitzels, sausage rolls, chicken-style nuggets, stir-fry strips, and even plant-based mince made from peas. They also make plant-based popcorn (like chicken popcorn) and polony. All these foods are made without any meat, eggs, or dairy.

Ingredients in Fry's Products

Fry's plant-based meat substitutes are made from healthy ingredients like legumes (like beans and lentils), grains, natural flavours, and spices. The company makes sure their products do not contain any genetically modified ingredients.
