Fry Group Foods, also known as The Fry Family Food Co., makes delicious plant-based foods. These foods are made to taste like meat but use only plant ingredients. Wally and Debbie Fry started the company in South Africa in 1991. In March 2020, Fry's joined LIVEKINDLY Collective. This is a big global company that focuses on plant-based foods.

The Story of Fry's Foods

Wally Fry used to eat meat and even traded farm animals for a living. His wife, Debbie, and daughter, Tammy, were already vegetarian. Wally decided to change his diet after seeing how animals were kept on a pig farm his company built.

To help Wally eat less meat, he and Debbie started making meat substitutes at home. They lived in Durban, South Africa. Soon, other people wanted to try their tasty plant-based foods. So, in 1991, they officially started a company to make these foods for everyone.

At that time, not many people in South Africa were looking for vegan food. This meant Fry's had to be very creative. They helped teach people about eating more plants. They supported campaigns like Meat-Free Monday and Veganuary.

Where Fry's Foods Are Made and Sold

In 1998, Fry's started sending its plant-based foods from South Africa to Australia. Since 2014, their main office has been in Australia.

As of 2018, their frozen food products are sold in over 30 countries. They are made in a special factory in Durban and also by another company in Cornwall. In 2020, Fry's became part of LIVEKINDLY Collective. This helped them sell their foods to even more places around the world. Today, their biggest markets are South Africa, the UK, and Australia.

What Kinds of Foods Does Fry's Make?

When Fry's first started, they made just a few basic items. These included plant-based sausages, hot dogs, and burger patties.

As of 2023, their range has grown a lot. They now make more than 40 different products. You can find plant-based schnitzels, sausage rolls, chicken-style nuggets, and stir-fry strips. They also make pea protein mince, plant-based popcorn (chick'n style), and polony.

All their products are made without any meat, egg, or dairy. They use ingredients like legumes (like beans and lentils), grains, natural flavours, and spices. Fry's foods do not contain any genetically modified ingredients.
