In 1934, Modesto José Lorenzana was the mayor of Fuente de Cantos. He was a member of the Socialist party. Mayor Lorenzana worked hard to improve life for the people in his town.

However, during this time, there were many political changes in Spain. The government was a democratic republic. Some groups wanted to change this system.
