History of Götene Municipality

The story of Götene Municipality began in 1863. Back then, the area had 20 small local government areas. These were like the different church parishes. In 1952, these 20 smaller areas were combined into three bigger ones. Then, in 1967, these three larger areas joined together to form the Götene Municipality we know today.
