Got7 (Hangul: 갓세븐) is a popular South Korean boy band. They were formed by JYP Entertainment. The group has seven talented members: Jay B, Mark, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom.

Got7 officially started in January 2014. They released their first mini-album, called Got It?. This album quickly became very popular. It reached number two on the Gaon Album Chart in Korea. It also hit number one on Billboard's World Albums Chart. The group became known for their exciting live shows. These often included cool martial arts tricking and street dancing moves.

Later in 2014, Got7 joined Sony Music Entertainment Japan. They released their first Japanese song, "Around the World". A month later, they returned to Korea. They released their first full album, Identify, which was a big hit. In 2015, they released two more mini-albums: Just Right and Mad. The song "Just Right" became one of their most successful songs.

In 2016, they released a Japanese album, Moriagatteyo. It reached number three on the Oricon Albums Chart in Japan. Their Korean mini-album Flight Log: Departure and album Flight Log: Turbulence both topped the charts. In 2017, their mini-album Flight Log: Arrival was a huge success. It was their first album to sell over 300,000 copies.

The group left JYP Entertainment in January 2021. This happened after their contracts with the company ended.

How Got7 Started

Early Days and JJ Project

In 2009, Jay B and Jinyoung joined JYP Entertainment. They passed open auditions to become trainees. In 2010, Mark was found by JYP scouts in Los Angeles. BamBam was scouted in Bangkok, Thailand. That same year, Yugyeom became a JYP trainee after a chance at his dance school. In December, Jackson passed JYP's audition in Hong Kong. He started his training in the summer of 2011.

Jay B and Jinyoung first appeared as actors in the 2012 TV show Dream High 2. In May, they debuted as a pop duo called JJ Project. Their first song was "Bounce". They also acted in the 2013 drama When a Man Falls in Love.

Meanwhile, Mark, Jackson, BamBam, and Yugyeom trained to debut as a group. They first appeared on a TV show called Who is Next: WIN in September 2013. The last member to join the group was Youngjae. He had only trained for seven months before joining Got7.

Debut and Early Success (2014)

JYP Entertainment announced Got7 on January 1, 2014. They were the first boy group from JYP since 2PM in 2008. The name "Got7" means "seven lucky people come together."

Got7 was known as a hip-hop group. They used martial arts tricking and b-boying in their dances. This style was similar to their senior group, 2PM, who are known for acrobatics. This made Got7 get a lot of attention even before they officially debuted.

Got7 released their first mini-album, Got It?, on January 20, 2014. The album quickly reached number one on Billboard's World Albums Chart. It also hit number two on the Gaon Album Chart. Got7 officially performed their debut song "Girls Girls Girls" on Mnet's M Countdown on January 16, 2014. Soon after their debut, they signed with Sony Music Entertainment in Japan. They held a showcase there for 9,000 fans.

On June 23, Got7 released their second mini-album, Got Love. The main song was "A". For this album, the group showed a brighter and more colorful style. In November 2014, they released their first full album, Identify. The main song was "Stop Stop It". Identify was number one on Gaon's Weekly Album Sales Chart. "Stop Stop It" reached number four on Billboard's World Digital Songs chart. In October, Got7 had their first Japan Tour. They also debuted in Japan with their song Around the World.

New Awards and More Music (2015)

In January 2015, Got7 won "New Artist Awards" at the Golden Disc Awards and Seoul Music Awards. They also starred in their own web drama called Dream Knight. This show was about a girl and mysterious boys with magic powers. It got nearly 13 million views. The show won "Best Drama Award" at the K-Web Fest.

On June 10, 2015, the group released their second Japanese song, "Love Train". It debuted at number four on the Oricon Singles Chart. Got7 released their third mini-album, Just Right, on July 13, 2015. The song "Just Right" reached number three on Billboard's World Digital Songs chart. The music video for "Just Right" has over 300 million views on YouTube. This was their first music video to reach such a huge number.

Got7 released their third Japanese song, "Laugh Laugh Laugh", on September 23. It sold over 35,000 copies in its first week. It debuted at number one on Oricon's singles chart.

The group released their fourth mini-album, Mad, on September 29. The main song was "If You Do". They later released a special version of the album, Mad: Winter Edition, with new songs.

Tours and Chart Toppers (2016)

On February 3, 2016, Got7 released their first full Japanese album, Moriagatteyo. It reached number two on the Oricon charts. The album included 12 original Japanese songs and Japanese versions of their Korean hits.

On March 21, 2016, Got7's fifth mini-album, Flight Log: Departure, was released. The main song was "Fly". Got7 became the second K-pop act to appear on the Billboard Artist 100 chart. Flight Log: Departure debuted at number two on the Billboard Heatseekers Album Chart. It also charted on the Billboard World Albums Chart. On April 12, they released "Home Run", a song written by member Jay B.

Got7 started their first solo concert tour, "Fly Tour", in April 2016. The tour included shows in China, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, and the United States.

On September 27, Got7 released their second full album, Flight Log: Turbulence. It had thirteen songs, including "Hard Carry". The members helped write and compose 11 songs on the album. It sold 200,000 copies in South Korea. It also debuted at number one on Billboard's World Albums Chart.

On November 16, Got7 released their first Japanese mini-album, Hey Yah. It reached third place on the Oricon chart. This was their first Japanese album where members helped write and compose songs.

More Success and World Tours (2017-2018)

On March 13, 2017, the third album in the Flight Log series, Flight Log: Arrival, was released. This album sold 220,000 copies before it was even officially out. It sold over 310,000 copies by April 14. Flight Log: Arrival was number one on the Gaon and Hanteo album charts. It also topped Billboard's World Album Chart.

On May 24, the group released a new Japanese song, "My Swagger". It was number one on Billboard's Japan Single Chart.

On October 10, the group released their seventh mini-album, 7 for 7. The main song "You Are" was co-written by leader Jay B. Other members also wrote songs for the album. "You Are" quickly topped music charts in South Korea.

On November 15, the group released their second Japanese mini-album, "Turn Up". They also had a tour in Japan called "Got7Japan Tour 2017: Turn Up". Jackson did not join this album or tour due to health and schedule reasons.

On March 12, 2018, the group released their eighth mini-album, Eyes On You. The main song "Look" was co-written by Jay B. Other members also helped with the album. "Look" topped major charts in South Korea. This made it their most successful song on music charts since their debut. The album also topped iTunes charts in twenty countries. Eyes on You sold over 300,000 copies in South Korea.

From May 4–6, Got7 started their 2018 Eyes On You World Tour in Seoul. The tour continued through Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. Got7 was the first K-pop group to perform at Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

On September 17, Got7 released their third full album, Present: You. The main song "Lullaby" topped major charts in South Korea. Present: You sold over 250,000 copies.

New Music and Sub-units (2019)

On January 30, 2019, Got7 released their third Japanese mini-album, I Won't Let You Go. It debuted at number one on the Oricon Daily Album Chart.

On February 13, JYP Entertainment announced Got7's second sub-unit duo. It was revealed to be Jus2, with members Jay B and Yugyeom. They released their music video "Focus on Me" on March 3, 2019. Their debut album, Focus, came out the next day. They also had their first tour, Jus2 <FOCUS> Premiere Showcase Tour, in 7 cities in Asia.

The group released their ninth mini-album, Spinning Top: Between Security & Insecurity, on May 20, 2019. They sold over 214,000 copies in the first week. This made them the first group from JYP Entertainment to sell 2 million albums since their debut. The mini-album debuted at number five on the Billboard World Albums chart. They then started their third world tour, 'Keep Spinning', from June to October. They visited 12 countries. During their North American stop, Got7 appeared on the Today Show. They were the first Korean group to perform on the show.

On July 31, Got7 released their fourth Japanese mini-album, Love Loop. It debuted at number two on Oricon's daily albums chart. The group held the Our Loop Tour from July 30 to August 18.

The group released their tenth mini-album, Call My Name, on November 4, 2019. The main song was "You Calling My Name". They sold over 224,000 copies in the first week. This was the first time an artist from JYP Entertainment sold over 100,000 copies on the first day. The mini-album debuted at number five on the Billboard World Albums chart. It also topped the Gaon Weekly Chart.

At the end of 2019, they won their first Grand Prize (daesang) at the 4th Asia Artist Awards. This was for Performance of the Year.

Recent Activities and Comeback (2020-Present)

On April 20, 2020, Got7 released their eleventh mini-album, Dye. The main song was "Not By the Moon". They sold over 281,000 copies in the first week. This broke their personal record for sales. The mini-album also debuted at number four on the Billboard World Albums chart. It has sold over 450,000 copies, making it their best-selling album so far. On November 30, Got7 released their fourth full album, Breath of Love: Last Piece. The main song was "Last Piece".

On January 11, 2021, JYP Entertainment announced that all members would leave the company. This happened after their contracts ended on January 19, 2021.

On February 19, 2021, Got7 released a teaser for a new song called "Encore". It was released the next day.

The members then focused on their own solo activities for a year. On May 6, 2022, they revealed a new logo. They also launched new social media accounts under Warner Music Korea.

On May 8, they announced their comeback. They showed the cover of their new mini-album, Got7. They held a "Got7 Homecoming 2022 Fancon" on May 21–22. On May 23, Got7 released the album and the music video for the main song, "Nanana".

Helping Others

Got7 has also done good deeds to help others. In February 2017, a special area called G+ Star Zone was opened. It had pictures of Got7. Money raised there helped teenagers who needed financial support.

In April 2019, the group donated 30 million won. This money went to help people affected by forest fires in Gangwon-do, Korea. For their 2019 Keep Spinning World Tour, they worked with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This project, "Keep Spinning, Keep Dreaming with Got7," helped seriously ill children. It gave them a chance to attend concerts and meet the group.
