Jackson Wang (Chinese: 王嘉爾; Korean: 왕잭슨; born Wang Ka-yee; 28 March 1994) is a famous rapper, singer, and songwriter from Hong Kong. He is a member of the South Korean boy band Got7. This group was created by JYP Entertainment. Jackson also started his own record label called Team Wang. He is the creative director and main designer for its fashion brand, Team Wang Design.
Jackson Wang released his first solo album, Mirrors, in 2019. It reached number 32 on the American Billboard 200 chart. His second album, Magic Man, came out in 2022 and reached number 15. In 2021, Jackson left JYP Entertainment. He then formed a Chinese hip hop group called Panthepack under his Team Wang label. Before his music career, Jackson was a skilled sabre fencer. He competed in many fencing events. Jackson was also listed among the top celebrities in China by Forbes. He has the most Instagram followers among Chinese celebrities.

Jackson Wang's Early Life and Career
Growing Up in Hong Kong (1994–2011)
Jackson Wang was born in Hong Kong on March 28, 1994. His parents were both athletes. His father, Wang Ruiji, was a fencer, and his mother, Sophia Chow, was a gymnast. Jackson started learning fencing when he was ten years old.
He won many awards as part of the Hong Kong national fencing team. One big win was first place at the Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championship in 2011.
In 2010, a talent agent from JYP Entertainment saw Jackson playing basketball at his school. They invited him to try out for their company. In December 2010, he passed the audition. He was ranked first out of 2,000 people who tried out. Jackson was preparing for the 2012 London Olympics in fencing. He was offered a scholarship to Stanford University for fencing. But he turned it down because of his successful audition. In July 2011, Jackson moved to Seoul, South Korea, to train for his K-pop career.
Starting with Got7 and Solo Work (2013–2016)
In 2013, Jackson appeared on a TV show called Win: Who Is Next. This show was a competition between trainees from different music companies. Jackson was with other trainees like Mark, Yugyeom, and BamBam. They were later chosen to be members of Got7. The group released their first song, "Girls Girls Girls," in January 2014. It was part of their first album, Got It?.
In December 2014, Jackson joined his first variety show, Roommate. He won the Newcomer Award at the 2014 SBS Entertainment Awards. He also appeared on many other Korean TV shows. These included Star King and Happy Together. In May 2015, Jackson became a new host for the music show Inkigayo.
In December 2015, Jackson hosted the Chinese version of Please Take Care of My Refrigerator, called Go Fridge. He also wrote the theme song for the show's second and third seasons. In March 2016, he became a host for the show Fresh Sunday.
On April 29, 2016, Got7 had their first concert in Seoul. Jackson performed his own songs, "I Love It" and "WOLO (We Only Live Once)". He sang these with Yugyeom and BamBam. In November 2017, Jackson stopped all Got7 activities in Japan. This was due to health reasons and busy schedules. In December 2016, Jackson's first solo advertisement for Midea was released in China. He was named Variety Star of the Year at the Tencent Variety Show Star Awards that year.
Solo Music and Mirrors Album (2017–2020)
In January 2017, Jackson won the Popular Artist of the Year award. In June 2017, JYP Entertainment announced that Jackson would release his first solo album in China. They also created a special team, Team Wang, to manage his activities there. Jackson also started Snake or the Rabbit, a distribution company in the United States. In July 2017, he won the MTV Special Award.
His first solo song, "Papillon," came out on August 26. It quickly reached number 1 on Billboard's China V Chart. He also released "Novoland: The Castle in the Sky," a theme song for a game. After starting his own company in China, Jackson began working with many brands. These included Pepsi, Adidas, and Lenovo.
Jackson attended the 2017 MTV Europe Music Awards as an ambassador. In November, he was named Chief Wonderful Goods Officer for Alibaba Group Tmall Global. He also attended the American Music Awards. On November 30, he released his second solo song, "OKAY." He wrote and produced this song himself. In December, he was named Breakthrough Singer of the Year.
On February 9, 2018, Jackson became an envoy for Hong Kong Tourism. On April 20, he released his third song, "Dawn of Us." This English song was about enjoying the present moment. In December 2018, Madame Tussauds Hong Kong announced they would make a wax figure of Jackson. It was shown on July 30, 2019. In January 2019, he became the new ambassador for Fendi China. On March 23, 2019, Jackson held a birthday party in Beijing. All 5,000 tickets sold out in just 98 seconds.
In June 2019, Jackson was featured on the song "Rumble" by GoldLink. He also released the song "Another" with Qin Fen. In July, Fendi launched a special velvet collection designed by Jackson. This collection sold out very quickly.
On September 12, 2019, Jackson shared his first album, Mirrors, with the press. He oversaw the entire process of making the album. This included writing lyrics and shooting music videos. The album's first song, "Bullet to the Heart," came out on September 24. It reached number 1 on the Billboard China chart. His album Mirrors was released on October 25. It reached number 32 on the Billboard 200 chart. This was the highest debut for a Chinese artist on that chart.
In October 2019, Jackson was featured on three songs from 88rising's album Head in the Clouds II. In December, he was on the song "Face Power."
On January 24, 2020, Jackson performed at the CCTV New Year's Gala for the first time. On March 20, he released a new song, "100 Ways." This song mixed Western and Chinese cultures. It was the first song by a Chinese and K-pop solo artist to appear on a major U.S. radio chart.
In July 2020, Jackson became a mentor on the TV show Street Dance of China. On July 7, he launched his fashion brand, Team Wang Design. He is the designer and creative director. The first collection was very popular. He also released a limited collection with StockX.
On September 4, Jackson released the song "Pretty Please" with the group Galantis. Jackson planned and edited the music video himself. In December 2020, Jackson released the song "Should've Let Go" with JJ Lin. He also performed with Jessi at the KBS Song Festival. In 2020, he was ranked 41st on the Forbes China Celebrity 100 list. He is also the fastest Chinese artist to reach 10 million views on Vevo.
New Beginnings and Magic Man (2021–Present)
Jackson Wang left JYP Entertainment on January 19, 2021. This happened when his contract ended, along with other Got7 members. Now, Team Wang manages his international activities. He also released a Chinese song called "Alone."
In March 2021, Jackson stopped working with Adidas. This was after Adidas made a public statement about cotton production in Xinjiang.
In March 2021, Jackson was featured on three new songs: "Magnetic" by Rain, "So Bad" by Vava, and "M.I.A." by Afgan. On March 26, he released his new English song, "LMLY." He also directed its music video, which was inspired by 90s Hong Kong movies. This song was named one of the best K-pop songs of 2021 by Teen Vogue. In April 2021, Jackson performed "LMLY" and was named "Musician of the Year." He also performed the song on The Late Late Show With James Corden. In April 2023, Jackson performed at the Coachella festival again. He showed a part of his song "Slow" with Ciara. This song was released as a single on the same day. Since December 2023, Jackson has taken a break to deal with depression and mental exhaustion.
On April 14, 2024, he performed at Coachella again with Korean singer, BIBI. They sang a new song called "Feeling Lucky." This performance was part of 88rising's 'Futures' show. The English song and music video were released on April 26.
On May 22, 2024, the song and music video for "henny" were released. This was a collaboration between Hennessy and Jackson. Jackson is a global ambassador for Hennessy.
Jackson Wang's Personal Life
Jackson Wang can speak many languages very well. He is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, and English. This helps him work in China, Korea, and other parts of the world.
In August 2019, Jackson posted a photo of the Chinese flag. He said he was "one of 1.4 billion guardians of the Chinese flag." This was after a Chinese flag was removed during protests in Hong Kong. In a January 2020 interview, Jackson introduced himself as "Jackson Wang from China." He said he wanted people to know that "Chinese kids are working on good music too."
In January 2025, he donated money to help people affected by an earthquake in Tibet.
