Jackson Wang (born Wang Ka-yee on March 28, 1994) is a famous rapper, singer, and songwriter from Hong Kong. Before becoming a music star, he was a talented fencer.

In 2014, Jackson joined the popular South Korean boy band Got7. He later started his own Chinese record label, Team Wang, in 2017. He also became the main designer for its fashion brand, Team Wang Design. Jackson released his first solo album, Mirrors, in 2019. His second album, Magic Man, came out in 2022.

Jackson is very popular online. In September 2024, he had over 32 million followers on Instagram. This made him the most followed Chinese celebrity on the platform. He also has many fans on YouTube and Spotify.

Jackson Wang's Journey

Early Life and Fencing Career (1994–2011)

Jackson Wang was born in Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong, on March 28, 1994. His parents were both amazing athletes. His father, Wang Ruiji, was a fencer, and his mother, Zhou Ping, was a gymnast.

Jackson started gymnastics at age seven. At ten, he switched to fencing after trying a class at school. He became part of the Hong Kong national fencing team. He won many medals, including a gold medal at the Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championship in 2011.

Becoming a K-pop Star (2010–2016)

In 2010, a talent scout from JYP Entertainment saw Jackson playing basketball. He was invited to audition in Hong Kong. Five months later, in December 2010, he found out he passed the audition. He was ranked first out of 2,000 people!

Jackson was preparing for the 2012 London Olympics in fencing. But he decided to move to Seoul, South Korea, in July 2011 to train for K-pop. He even turned down a scholarship to Stanford University for fencing.

In 2013, Jackson appeared on a TV show called Win: Who Is Next. He was chosen to be a member of Got7 with Mark, Yugyeom, and BamBam. Got7 officially started in January 2014 with their song "Girls Girls Girls."

Jackson also became popular on TV shows. In December 2014, he joined the show Roommate. He won the Newcomer Award at the 2014 SBS Entertainment Awards. He also hosted the music show Inkigayo from 2015 to 2016.

In China, Jackson co-hosted the show Go Fridge with He Jiong. He even wrote the theme song for the show's second and third seasons. In 2016, he was named Variety Star of the Year at the Tencent Variety Show Star Awards.

Solo Music and Mirrors Album (2017–2020)

In January 2017, Jackson won the Popular Artist of the Year award at the Sina Weibo Awards. In June 2017, JYP Entertainment announced that Jackson would release a solo album in China. They also created Team Wang to manage his activities there.

Jackson released his first solo song, "Papillon," in August 2017. It quickly became number one on Billboard's China V Chart. He also released "Novoland: The Castle in the Sky," a theme song for a game. After starting his own studio, Jackson began working with big brands like Pepsi, Adidas, and Lenovo.

He attended the 2017 MTV Europe Music Awards and the American Music Awards in 2017. In November, he released his second solo song, "OKAY." Both "Papillon" and "OKAY" were songs he helped write and produce.

In 2018, Jackson became an ambassador for Hong Kong Tourism. He released more songs like "Dawn of Us" and "Fendiman," a collaboration with Fendi China. "Fendiman" reached number one on iTunes charts in the US. In August 2018, he won the Next Big Thing award at the 2018 Teen Choice Awards.

In 2019, Madame Tussauds Hong Kong made a wax figure of Jackson. He also became an ambassador for Fendi China. In July, Fendi launched a special collection designed by Jackson, which sold out very quickly.

Jackson's first solo album, Mirrors, was released on October 25, 2019. He was involved in every step of making the album. The first song from the album, "Bullet to the Heart," was released in September. Mirrors reached number 32 on the Billboard 200 chart in the US. This was the highest a Chinese artist's first album had ever charted.

In January 2020, Jackson performed at the CCTV New Year's Gala. In March, he released "100 Ways," which mixed Western and Chinese cultures. This song was the first by a Chinese and K-pop solo artist to appear on a major US radio chart.

In July 2020, Jackson launched his fashion brand, Team Wang Design. He is the designer and creative director. The first collection was very popular. He also collaborated with the Swedish duo Galantis on the song "Pretty Please."

New Beginnings and Magic Man (2021–Present)

In January 2021, Jackson and the other Got7 members left JYP Entertainment. Since then, Team Wang has managed his international activities. He also partnered with Sublime Artist Agency.

In March 2021, Jackson released his English single "LMLY." The music video was inspired by 90s Hong Kong movies. He performed "LMLY" on The Late Late Show With James Corden, making his US late-night TV debut.

In July 2021, Jackson released another English song, "Drive You Home." He also announced a new hip hop group called Panthepack under his label, Team Wang. The group released their debut album, The Pack, in September 2021.

On March 31, 2022, Jackson released the song "Blow," which was a preview for his new album. He performed at the Coachella festival in April 2022. In July 2022, he performed at a football match between Manchester United and Liverpool in Thailand.

His second solo album, Magic Man, was released on September 9, 2022. It reached number 15 on the Billboard 200 chart. Jackson then started a world tour for Magic Man, selling out shows in many cities around the world.

In April 2023, Jackson performed at Coachella again with singer Ciara. They performed their song "Slow," which was released the same day. Since December 2023, Jackson has taken a break to focus on his mental health.

On April 14, 2024, he returned to the Coachella stage with Korean singer BIBI. They performed a new song called "Feeling Lucky," which was released later that month. In May 2024, Jackson released "henny," a song and music video in collaboration with Hennessy, a cognac brand he represents.

Personal Life

Jackson Wang speaks many languages because of his work. He can speak and understand Mandarin, Cantonese, Korean, and English very well.

In August 2019, Jackson showed his support for China by posting a photo of the Chinese flag. He said he was "one of 1.4 billion guardians of the Chinese flag." In a January 2020 interview, he said his goal was to show the world that "Chinese kids are working on good music too."

Jackson is also known for his charity work. In January 2025, he donated money to help people affected by an earthquake in Tibet. In April 2025, he donated $100,000 to help with earthquake relief in Thailand.
