Gaasterlân-Sleat was a former municipality in the northern Netherlands. Its official name was in West Frisian. The Dutch name for this area was Gaasterland-Sloten.

This municipality was created on January 1, 1984. It was dissolved on January 1, 2014. At that time, it joined with two other municipalities, Lemsterland and Skarsterlân. Together, they formed a new, larger municipality called De Fryske Marren.

Gaasterlân-Sleat was located in the province of Friesland. This area is known for its beautiful landscapes. It has a mix of land and water. The total area was about 209 square kilometers. More than half of this was water.

The land area was about 95 square kilometers. The water area was about 114 square kilometers. This shows how important lakes and canals were to the region. The highest point was only about 1 meter above sea level.

Population and People

In November 2013, just before it merged, about 10,186 people lived in Gaasterlân-Sleat. This means there were about 107 people living in each square kilometer of land. The people living here were mostly Dutch.
