The community of Garden City got its name because the area where it was first built looked like a beautiful garden. A post office was opened here in 1857.
The First Baptist Church building was finished in 1868. This church is an important part of the community's history.
Since 1860, the Blue Earth County Fair has been held in Garden City almost every year. It's a big event where people from the county come together.
In 1921, a man named Henry Wellcome visited Garden City from London. He bought some land and gave it to the community. His gift helped build a school called Wellcome Memorial School. Over time, this school joined with other school districts nearby, like Rapidan, Vernon Center, and Lake Crystal. Today, the building is used by Wellcome Manor Family Services.
Famous People from Garden City
- Henry Wellcome (1853-1936) was a very successful businessman. He started a company that made medicines. He is remembered for his generous gift to Garden City.
