Gary Holt's Musical Journey
Gary Holt has been a key part of the thrash metal scene for many years. He is known for his powerful guitar playing.
Starting with Exodus
Gary joined the band Exodus in 1981. This happened after their previous guitarist, Tim Agnello, left the group. Gary has been a member of Exodus ever since. He is the only person who has played on every single album the band has released. This shows how important he is to Exodus.
Playing for Slayer
In 2011, Gary Holt also started playing with the band Slayer. He joined them to help out when their guitarist, Jeff Hanneman, became unable to perform. Gary played with Slayer at a big concert called the Big 4 Concert. This event took place in Indio, California, on April 23, 2011.
After Jeff Hanneman's passing in 2013, Gary agreed to continue playing with Slayer. He still tours with the band today.
Gary's Favorite Bands
In an interview, Gary Holt shared some of his favorite bands. He enjoys listening to Venom, Motörhead, Black Sabbath, early Iron Maiden, and Judas Priest. These bands have likely influenced his own musical style.
His Role in Slayer's Albums
Gary Holt has also contributed to Slayer's music in the studio. He played some guitar solos on their eleventh studio album. The main guitar parts for that album were handled by Kerry King. Kerry King mentioned that Gary would not be involved in writing new songs for Slayer at that time.
