Gary Johnson is a former Governor of New Mexico. On January 6, 2016, he announced he wanted to become the Libertarian Party's choice for President of the United States.
Johnson had run for president before. In the 2012 election, he was also the Libertarian candidate. He finished third in the number of votes. He received almost 1.3 million votes, which was nearly 1% of all the votes cast.
