The Gastrotheca bufona, also known as the Antioquia marsupial frog, is a special kind of frog. It belongs to the Hemiphractidae family. This frog is only found in Colombia, a country in South America.
You can find these frogs in the Central and Western mountain ranges. Specifically, they live in the Antioquia and Caldas Departments. They prefer high places, usually between 1,430 and 2,200 meters (about 4,690 to 7,220 feet) above sea level. Its scientific name, bufona, comes from a Spanish word meaning 'jester' or 'clown'. This is because of its bright, 'showy' look.

About the Antioquia Marsupial Frog
Adult frogs can grow up to 55 millimeters (about 2 inches) long. This measurement is from its nose to its rear.
Unique Features
This frog has some very interesting features. It has special 'horns' on its upper eyelids. These are like small, triangular flaps of skin. Its heels also have unique skin flaps. The frog's body is a bit long. The skin on its back feels rough and has glands.
Where It Lives and Why It Needs Help
The Antioquia marsupial frog lives in Andean cloud forests. These are special forests high in the mountains where clouds often cover the trees. The frog spends its life high up in the trees, in the forest canopy.
Why This Frog Is Rare
This frog is quite rare. It is considered a vulnerable species. This means it faces a high risk of becoming endangered in the wild.
Threats to Its Home
The biggest problem for the Antioquia marsupial frog is habitat loss. Its natural home is shrinking. This happens because people cut down trees for wood (logging). They also clear land for farming (agriculture). These activities destroy the cloud forests where the frogs live. Protecting these forests is very important to help the Antioquia marsupial frog survive.
