The Gastrotheca stictopleura is a special type of frog that lives only in Peru. It belongs to a frog family called Hemiphractidae. This frog is found in the southern part of the Cordillera Azul mountains. You can find it in areas like Huánuco, Pasco, and southern Junín Region. These frogs live high up in the mountains, at elevations between 2,500 and 3,090 meters (about 8,200 to 10,140 feet) above sea level.
Where It Lives
This unique frog's natural home is the cloud forest. A cloud forest is a special kind of tropical forest that is often covered in clouds or mist. This makes it very wet and humid, which is perfect for frogs. The Gastrotheca stictopleura can also be found in forests that have been slightly changed by people, and even in pastures (fields where animals graze) that still have some trees.
Why It's in Danger
Sadly, the Gastrotheca stictopleura is facing threats that could make its population shrink. The biggest problem is habitat loss. This means the places where these frogs live are disappearing. People are cutting down forests for farming, logging (cutting trees for wood), and building new homes and towns. When their habitat is destroyed, these frogs lose their homes and food sources, making it harder for them to survive.
