Gatesville is a small town located in Gates County, North Carolina, United States. It is the main town, also known as the county seat, of Gates County. In 2020, the town had a population of 267 people.

History of Gatesville

The area where Gatesville now stands was first known as Bennetts Creek Landing. This was back in 1779. Later, it was called Gates Courthouse. In 1830, it officially became a town and was named Gatesville. The town was named after Horatio Gates, an important commander during the American Revolutionary War.

Several historic buildings in Gatesville are recognized for their importance. They are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the Elmwood Plantation, Eure-Roberts House, Gates County Courthouse, Roberts-Carter House, Rountree Family Farm, and Reid's Grove School.
