Gayatri Nair (born in 2001) is a talented Indian-British musician. She grew up in London, UK, and has been performing since she was a young child. Gayatri became well-known in 2018 when she appeared on The Voice UK Season 7. She made it all the way to the semifinals, finishing 6th in the competition!

Gayatri's Early Life and School

Gayatri Nair was born in Madras, India. She moved to London, United Kingdom, where she grew up. From a very young age, Gayatri loved music, performing, and sports.

She started her first school at St. Anthony's Catholic School in East Dulwich. She also learned performing arts at a special children's program at the BRIT School. Gayatri had amazing teachers: a concert pianist named Evelina Puzaite and a classical voice coach named Tamara Zivadinovic.

In 2012, Gayatri earned a spot at The Purcell School for Young Musicians. This is the oldest music school in the United Kingdom and is famous around the world! Besides music, Gayatri is also a skilled martial artist. She has a black belt in Taekwondo!

Gayatri has performed in many local concerts and shows. She often sings acoustic versions of popular Soul, R&B, and Pop songs.

Early Appearances

In 2010, Gayatri was featured on a TV show for talented kids. It was a segment on Nickelodeon TV in the UK. A few years later, in 2013, Gayatri shared a video on YouTube. It was an acoustic cover of the song "Titanium" by David Guetta. This video became very popular and was watched by tens of thousands of people!

2018: The Voice UK

Gayatri Nair tried out for The Voice UK Season 7 in 2018. This is a big singing competition on ITV. The news about her audition was even shared on The Voice UK's Twitter page!

Blind Auditions

During the first round, called the Blind Auditions, Gayatri sang "Powerful." This song was originally performed by Jussie Smollett and Alicia Keys for the TV show Empire (2015 TV series). Three of the four famous coaches turned their chairs for her! These coaches were Tom Jones (singer), Jennifer Hudson, and will.i.am. Gayatri chose to join Team Jennifer Hudson.

Knockouts and Semifinals

In the Knockout round, Gayatri sang "This Is Me" from the movie The Greatest Showman. Her performance was so moving that it brought Jennifer Hudson to tears! Jennifer chose Gayatri to move forward to the Semifinals of The Voice UK (series 7).
