Gemma Pranita (born 18 December 1985) is an actress from Australia. She was born in Thailand. Gemma is also a photographer and a podcaster.

She became famous for playing Jade Mitchell in the Australian TV show Neighbours. She was on the show from 2010 to 2012. She also appeared in the show again briefly in 2019.

About Gemma's Early Life

Gemma Pranita Xumsai was born in Bangkok, Thailand, in 1985. Her father is Thai and her mother is English. When Gemma was twelve, her family moved to Australia.

In high school in Sydney, Gemma loved drama, art, and music. Her drama teacher told her to apply to the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). Gemma also plays the guitar and writes music. She often performs in public.

Acting Roles

From 1999 to 2003, Gemma took part in the Shakespeare Globe Association's yearly Shakespeare festival. She competed at a high level. In 2002, she joined the company for their play Loves Labors Lost. She performed and also wrote music for the show.

In 2006, Gemma and her friend Kate Reeves started a theatre company called Cry Havoc! After finishing her studies at WAAPA in 2007, Gemma joined the Bell Shakespeare theatre company. She toured with them for eight months. She also played the main character in Kate Reeves' short film, Hi My Name is Billy.

The next year, Gemma joined the cast of a thriller movie called Crush. The movie was filmed in Perth, Australia. Gemma played the role of a nurse in the film. She also played Valentina Vega in the Australian science fiction movie Resistance.

In September 2010, news came out that Gemma would join the TV show Neighbours. She would play Jade Mitchell, who was the younger sister of Sonya (played by Eve Morey). Gemma was in Russia when her agent called her about the audition. She flew back to Australia and got the part. She moved to Melbourne for filming very quickly.

Gemma first signed a contract for one year with Neighbours. On 8 June 2012, it was announced that she would leave the show. Gemma said that two years was enough time to play one character. She wanted to try new challenges. She filmed her last scenes on 9 August.

After leaving Neighbours, Gemma appeared in the short film Banter. She played a character named Emma. She then acted with other Australian actresses like Teresa Palmer and Phoebe Tonkin in the movie The Ever After. This movie was directed by Mark Webber. Gemma returned to Neighbours for a short visit in March 2019.

In 2013, Gemma started a fashion and photography blog called Gemma Peanut Gallery. On her blog, she shares photos of herself and her friends. Many of her friends are famous Australian stars. Gemma Pranita is married to Matthew Rooney. They were friends when they were children. They got engaged after being together for 18 months. In October 2017, Gemma shared that she was going to have her first child. Her daughter was born on 18 April 2018. Gemma had her second child, a son, in 2020.
