Gemma Pranita, born on December 18, 1985, is an actress from Australia who was born in Thailand. She is known for her acting roles, especially as Jade Mitchell in the TV show Neighbours. Besides acting, Gemma is also a talented photographer and a podcaster. She has been active in her career since 1999.

Her Early Life

Gemma Pranita Xumsai was born in 1985 in Bangkok, Thailand. Her father is Thai, and her mother is English. When Gemma was twelve years old, her family moved to Australia.

In high school in Sydney, Gemma loved drama, art, and music. Her drama teacher encouraged her to apply to the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). Gemma also plays the guitar, writes music, and performs in public.

Her Acting Career

From 1999 to 2003, Gemma took part in the Shakespeare Globe Association's yearly Shakespeare festival. In 2002, she was asked to join their national play Loves Labors Lost. She performed and also helped create the music for the show.

After finishing her studies at WAAPA in 2007, Gemma joined the Bell Shakespeare theatre company. She toured with them for eight months. She also played the main role in a short film called Hi My Name is Billy. The next year, Gemma joined the cast of the thriller movie Crush. She played a nurse in the film, which was shot in Perth. Gemma also played Valentina Vega in the Australian sci-fi film Resistance.

In September 2010, Gemma joined the TV show Neighbours. She played Jade Mitchell, who was the younger sister of Sonya (played by Eve Morey). Gemma was in Russia when her agent called her to audition for Neighbours. She returned to Australia and got the role. She then moved to Melbourne for filming.

Gemma decided to leave Neighbours in 2012. She felt that two years was enough time to play one character. She wanted to try new challenges. She filmed her last scenes on August 9, 2012. However, she briefly returned to Neighbours in March 2019 for a short visit.

After leaving Neighbours, Gemma appeared in the short film Banter. She also acted in The Ever After with other Australian actresses like Teresa Palmer and Phoebe Tonkin.

Photography and Podcast

In 2013, Gemma started a fashion and photography blog called Gemma Peanut Gallery. On her blog, she shares photos of herself and her friends. Some of her friends are famous Australian stars like Margot Robbie, Rachael Taylor, Renee Bargh, Teresa Palmer, Phoebe Tonkin, and Delta Goodrem. In September 2016, she launched an online photography course to teach others.

Gemma also co-hosts a podcast called We Don't Have Time For This with her close friend Kate Reeves. The podcast talks about topics like being a parent, fashion, careers, and relationships. In 2023, Gemma and Kate went on a tour with their live show called "Can We Not Evolve?".

Gemma Pranita is married to Matthew Rooney. They were friends when they were children. They got engaged after being together for 18 months.
