Delta Lea Goodrem AM (born 9 November 1984) is a famous Australian singer, songwriter, television star, and actress from Sydney. She signed a recording contract with Sony Music when she was just 15 years old. Her first album, Innocent Eyes (2003), was a huge hit. It stayed at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart for 29 weeks! This album is one of the best-selling Australian albums ever, selling over four million copies.
Goodrem's second album, Mistaken Identity (2004), also reached number one. Her third number-one album, Delta, came out in 2007 and included the hit song "In This Life". In 2016, her album Wings of the Wild became her fourth number-one album, with the popular single "Wings". Her most recent number-one album, Bridge over Troubled Dreams, was released in May 2021.
From 2012 to 2020, Delta was a coach on The Voice Australia for eight seasons. She also coached on The Voice Kids in 2014. Since 2020, she has hosted her own Christmas TV special, Christmas with Delta. Delta Goodrem has had nine number-one songs and 17 top-ten hits in Australia. She has sold over eight million albums worldwide and has won many awards, including 12 ARIA Music Awards.

Early Life and Starting Out (1984–2000)
Delta Lea Goodrem was born in Sydney on 9 November 1984. She has a younger brother named Trent. Delta started playing piano and taking singing, dancing, and acting lessons when she was seven. She appeared in TV commercials for companies like Optus and Nesquik. She also had small roles in Australian TV shows such as Hey Dad..! and A Country Practice.
When she was 13, Delta recorded a five-song demo CD. This CD was passed to talent manager Glenn Wheatley, who signed her to a record deal. Between 1999 and 2000, Delta worked on songs for an album called Delta. She wanted her music to sound like popular artists such as the Spice Girls and Britney Spears.
Becoming a Star with Innocent Eyes (2001–2003)
At 15, Delta signed with Sony Music. Her first single, "I Don't Care", was not a big hit. However, her role as Nina Tucker in the TV show Neighbours helped her music career take off. Her song "Born to Try", which she co-wrote, became a number-one hit in Australia and New Zealand. It also reached number three in the UK. Delta won a Logie Award for "Most Popular New Talent" in 2003. Her next single, "Lost Without You", also topped the Australian charts.
Delta's first album, Innocent Eyes, was released in March 2003. It went straight to number one in Australia and stayed there for 29 weeks, breaking records. It was the best-selling album in Australia in 2003, selling 1.2 million copies there and over 4 million worldwide. The album's title track, "Innocent Eyes", also reached number one.
In July 2003, Delta was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of cancer. She had to take a break from her career for treatment. Despite this, her songs continued to be successful. "Not Me, Not I" became her fourth number-one single in Australia. Later that year, Delta won seven ARIA Music Awards, including "Best Female Artist". Her DVD Delta became the best-selling music DVD by an Australian artist ever. Her song "Predictable" became her fifth number-one single in Australia.
New Beginnings with Mistaken Identity (2004–2006)
After recovering from cancer treatment in late 2003, Delta started working on her second album. In 2004, she became the face of Pepsi in Australia and launched her own lingerie line.
Delta's second album, Mistaken Identity, was released in November 2004 and debuted at number one in Australia. It sold over 350,000 copies. The first single from the album, "Out of the Blue", also reached number one, making it her sixth straight number-one single in Australia. She also had a number-one duet with Irish singer Brian McFadden called "Almost Here". Many songs on the album, especially "Extraordinary Day", were inspired by her experience with cancer.

In March 2005, Delta starred in her first film, Hating Alison Ashley, based on a children's novel. The film did not do very well. In April 2005, Delta moved to New York to try to launch her career in the United States. She appeared in a TV series called North Shore to gain more attention.
In July 2005, Delta went on her first big concert tour in Australia, called The Visualise Tour. She performed for 80,000 people. A DVD of the tour was released and became her second number-one music DVD. In March 2006, Delta performed a new song, "Together We Are One", at the 2006 Commonwealth Games opening ceremony. The song reached number two in Australia.
The Delta Album and More Success (2007–2010)
Delta's third album, Delta, was released in October 2007. She described it as "a lot lighter" than her previous album. It debuted at number one in Australia, becoming her third number-one album. The first single, "In This Life", also reached number one, making it her eighth number-one single in Australia.
In 2008, Delta promoted her music in Japan and the United States. "In This Life" was released in both countries. In the US, it charted on the Billboard Hot Adult Top 40 Tracks chart. Her album Delta also charted in the US.
In July 2008, Delta announced her second Australian tour, the Believe Again Tour. She performed 14 shows in eight cities. A DVD of this tour was released in 2009 and also reached number one. Delta also recorded a duet, "Right Here with You", with Olivia Newton-John to help raise money for Newton-John's cancer hospital. Delta won her third World Music Award for World's Best Selling Australian Artist in 2008.
Child of the Universe and The Voice (2011–2014)
In November 2011, Delta was announced as a coach for the Australian version of The Voice, which started in 2012. She coached alongside Keith Urban, Joel Madden, and Seal. She returned for season two in 2013.
In March 2012, Delta released her new single, "Sitting on Top of the World". It reached number two in Australia and was certified double platinum. Her fourth album, Child of the Universe, was released in October 2012 and debuted at number two. She also went on a tour called "An Evening with Delta: The Top of My World Shows". In December 2012, she released a Christmas EP called Christmas.
In 2013, Delta performed at the Mardi Gras in Sydney. She also released a new single, "Heart Hypnotic". To celebrate 10 years since her album Innocent Eyes, she released Innocent Eyes: Ten Year Anniversary Acoustic Edition in November 2013. In 2014, Delta became a coach on The Voice Kids, where she coached the winner, Alexa Curtis.
Wings of the Wild and More TV (2015–2019)
In January 2015, it was announced that Delta would return as a coach on The Voice Australia. She continued as a coach until 2020 and won the show in 2016 and 2017 with her artists Alfie Arcuri and Judah Kelly. Delta also returned to Neighbours for three episodes in March 2015 to celebrate the show's 30th anniversary.
In July 2015, Delta released "Wings" as the first single from her fifth album, Wings of the Wild. The song reached number one in Australia. From October 2015 to February 2016, Delta made her musical theatre debut playing Grizabella in an Australian version of Cats. "Dear Life" was released in May 2016 and reached number three.
Wings of the Wild was released in July 2016. Delta toured Australia in October and November 2016 to support the album. In 2017, she appeared in the TV series House Husbands. Delta also played Olivia Newton-John in a TV movie about her life called Olivia: Hopelessly Devoted to You in 2018. She released a soundtrack album for the movie called I Honestly Love You.
Recent Years and New Music (2020–Present)
In January 2020, Delta released a charity single, "Let It Rain", to help with the bushfires in Australia. All money from the song went to the Red Cross. She also released singles "Keep Climbing" and "Paralyzed" in 2020. In August 2020, Delta shared a video explaining that after surgery, she had to re-learn to speak because a nerve in her tongue was affected.
Delta announced her Bridge Over Troubled Dreams Tour of Australia and New Zealand, which started in March 2022. She also released her sixth album, a Christmas album called Only Santa Knows, in November 2020. She has hosted her own Christmas TV special, Christmas with Delta, every year since 2020.
In early 2021, Delta announced her seventh album, Bridge over Troubled Dreams, which came out in May 2021. She also released a book with the same name. In June 2022, Delta opened for the Backstreet Boys on their tour in North America. On 28 July 2022, she made a brief return as Nina Tucker in Neighbours: The Finale. In September 2022, Delta performed with English singer Robbie Williams at the 2022 AFL Grand Final.
On 18 July 2023, Delta announced her new single, "Back to Your Heart", released under her own record label, ATLED Records. This meant she was now an independent artist. In August and September 2023, Delta went on her Hearts on the Run tour in Europe. In September, she returned to Australia for a 20th anniversary tour for her debut album Innocent Eyes. On 28 September 2023, Delta starred in the Netflix film, Love Is in the Air, which was very popular. In April 2024, she released another single, "Hearts on the Run". In April and May 2025, she performed shows in Sydney and London to celebrate the 20th anniversary of her second album Mistaken Identity.
Personal Life
Health Journey
On 8 July 2003, when she was 18, Delta was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of cancer. She paused her work to get treatment, which included chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Delta has shared that she had symptoms like a rash, tiredness, and a lump on her neck before her diagnosis.
In August 2020, Delta shared that after having a salivary gland removed, she faced complications that affected a nerve in her tongue. This meant she had to re-learn how to speak.
Relationships
Delta Goodrem has been in a relationship with fellow musician Matthew Copley since late 2016. They announced their engagement in September 2023 and were married in Malta in July 2025.
Legacy and Artistry
Delta Goodrem's music is mostly pop and adult contemporary. She often plays the piano barefoot when she performs live. She is known for her strong and clear soprano voice.
In 2022, Delta was honored as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her important work with charities and in the performing arts. A wax figure of Delta Goodrem was put on display at Madame Tussauds Sydney in April 2012.
Delta has also supported many products and released her own perfume line, which has been very successful. Her first album, Innocent Eyes, made her one of Australia's top-selling female artists. Charity Work
Delta Goodrem is a big supporter of many charities. She is a patron of The Kinghorn Cancer Centre in Sydney and an ambassador for the Starlight Children's Foundation, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Sony Foundation Australia.
In 2005, Delta helped launch "Teen Info on Cancer" in the UK, a website for young people with cancer. She also became an ambassador for Research Australia's "Thank You Day", which celebrates health and medical researchers.
In 2020, Delta released the charity single "Let It Rain" to help with the Australian bushfire crisis. She also performed in major charity concerts like Fire Fight Australia and One World: Together at Home to raise money for different causes.
In June 2020, Delta launched the Delta Goodrem Foundation. This foundation works with St. Vincent's Hospital and The Kinghorn Cancer Centre to raise money for blood cancer research.
