George Woodman Hilton (born January 18, 1925 – died August 4, 2014) was an American expert in history and economics. He studied how societies change over time and how money and resources are managed. He also looked at how transportation systems work and how governments make rules for businesses.
Early Life and Education
George Hilton was born in Chicago, Illinois. He was a very good student. He went to Dartmouth College and finished his first degree in Economics in 1946. He did so well that he earned it summa cum laude, which means "with highest honors."
He continued his studies and got his Master's degree in 1950. George then traveled to England to study at the London School of Economics from 1953 to 1955. He later earned his Ph.D. (a very advanced degree) from the University of Chicago in 1956.
Teaching Career
After finishing his education, George Hilton became a professor. He taught for many years at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He was a professor of Economics, teaching students about how economies work.
Later in his career, he became a "Professor Emeritus" at UCLA. This special title is given to retired professors who are still highly respected for their work.
Later Life
George Hilton passed away in Los Angeles, California, when he was 89 years old. He left behind a lot of important work in history and economics.
