College Basketball Journey
George King grew up in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Later, he moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he played basketball at William J. Brennan High School. He then went to the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Starting at Colorado
When George first joined the Buffaloes, he didn't play much in his first year. He and his coach, Tad Boyle, decided it would be good for him to take a year off from playing. This is called a redshirt year in college sports. It helped him focus on his studies and improve his game.
Becoming a Star Player
The redshirt year was a great choice! George came back for the 2015–16 season. He was named the Pac-12's Most Improved Player. He scored about 13.6 points and grabbed 4.7 rebounds per game.
In his third year, his role changed a bit. The team got another great player, Derrick White, who later joined the NBA. George still played well, averaging 11.1 points and 6.8 rebounds.
Final College Season
After his junior year, George thought about joining the 2017 NBA draft. But he decided to stay at Colorado for his senior year. In his last college season, he averaged 12.9 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. He was recognized as a second-team All-Pac-12 player.
George finished his college career with 1,294 points and 681 rebounds. These numbers put him among the top 20 players in his school's history. He also made 181 three-pointers, shooting very well from long range.
Professional Basketball Career
After college, George King showed off his skills at special events for players hoping to go pro. He did very well at the Reese's College All-Star Game and the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament. These strong performances led to an invitation to the 2018 NBA Draft Combine.
Phoenix Suns (2018–2019)
On June 21, 2018, the Phoenix Suns picked George King in the 2018 NBA draft. He was the 59th player chosen. He signed a special two-way contract with the Suns. This meant he would play for both the Phoenix Suns and their minor league team, the Northern Arizona Suns.
George played his first NBA G League game on November 4. He scored 22 points and had 4 rebounds. He made his NBA debut on December 11, 2018. He played for six minutes and grabbed one rebound. This was his only NBA game that season because he hurt his ankle while playing for the Northern Arizona team. In 41 G League games, he averaged 15.5 points and 5.3 rebounds.
