George Little's Early Life and College Football
George Willard Little was born in Duquesne, Pennsylvania, on June 27, 1963. He went to Duquesne High School in his hometown.
After high school, George played college football for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He played for four years, from 1981 to 1984. In his final year, 1984, he was named a first-team All-Big Ten player. This means he was one of the best players in his college football conference.
Playing in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins
The Miami Dolphins picked George Little in the third round of the 1985 NFL draft. He was the 65th player chosen overall. He officially joined the team in July 1985.
In his first year, 1985, George played in 14 games for the Dolphins. He started three of those games and made one "sack." A sack happens when a defensive player tackles the opposing team's quarterback behind the line of scrimmage. He also played in two playoff games that season.
During the 1986 season, George Little started all 16 games for the Dolphins. He had four sacks and recovered one fumble. A fumble is when a player drops the ball, and recovering it means his team gets possession. The Dolphins finished that year with an 8–8 record, meaning they won 8 games and lost 8.
