His Family and Marriage
In 1639, George married Lady Henrietta Gordon. She was the daughter of the Marquess of Huntly. This marriage was a very good match for the Seton family. George and Henrietta had four sons. A Royalist Supporter
George Seton was a very skilled military leader. He strongly supported the Royalist cause. This meant he was loyal to King Charles I during the English Civil War.
Managing the Family Estates
George was very good at managing his family's lands and wealth. His father gave him many chances to learn and succeed. This was especially important during the difficult 1600s.
During the English Civil War, George faced many challenges. He suffered greatly when the rebels captured him. To free him from prison, his father had to sell some family lands. These included Niddry Castle and another estate in Winchburgh, both in Linlithgowshire. These lands had been in the family for a long time.
His Early Death
George Seton died at Seton Palace on June 4, 1648. He passed away unexpectedly from an illness. It is thought that his time in prison might have caused this sickness. He died before his father did.
