George Tuchet, 1st Earl of Castlehaven (born around 1551 – died 1617), was an important English nobleman and politician. He was the son of Henry Tuchet, 10th Baron Audley and Elizabeth Sneyd. George Tuchet held several important titles and served his country in various roles during his lifetime.

A Life of Service
George Tuchet took over his father's titles, becoming the 11th Baron Audley and 8th Baron Tuchet, on December 30, 1563. He was quite young when he inherited these important roles.
Serving in Parliament
He served as a member of the Parliament of England for many years. His time in Parliament lasted from September 30, 1566, until April 5, 1614. This shows he was involved in government for a long time.
Other Important Roles
George Tuchet was also a Fellow at Magdalen College, Oxford, which is a famous university. He held important positions as a governor in different places. He was the Governor of Utrecht in the Netherlands. He also served as the Governor of Kells, County Meath, in Ireland.
He was involved in military events as well. He was wounded during the Battle of Kinsale on December 24, 1601. This battle was fought in Ireland. George Tuchet lived mostly in Ireland. He was later asked to join the Irish House of Lords on March 11, 1613/1614.
New Noble Titles
On September 6, 1616, George Tuchet received even more important titles. He was made the 1st Baron Audley of Orier (in County Armagh) and the 1st Earl of Castlehaven (in County Cork). These new titles were part of the Peerage of Ireland.
His Family Life
George Tuchet was married twice and had several children.
First Marriage and Children
Before August 28, 1584, George Tuchet married Lucy Mervyn. She was the only daughter of Sir James Marvyn. Lucy passed away before April 1610.
George and Lucy had seven children together:
- Eleanor Tuchet (1590–1652): She married Sir John Davies. Later, she married Sir Archibald Douglas.
- Mervyn (1593–1631): He later became the 2nd Earl of Castlehaven.
- Sir Ferdinando Tuchet: He was a Knight of the Bath.
- Anne Tuchet: She married Edward Blount.
- Elizabeth Tuchet: She married Sir John Stawell. Later, she married Sir Thomas Griffin.
- Maria Tuchet: She married Sir Thomas Thynne.
- Christian Tuchet (born around 1587 – died before 1646): She married Sir Henry Mervyn. They had two sons, James and Sir Audley Mervyn.
Second Marriage
On August 29, 1611, George Tuchet married his second wife, Elizabeth Noel. She was the daughter of Sir Andrew Noel. This marriage took place in St. Mary-le-Strand, Middlesex. George and Elizabeth did not have any children together. Elizabeth Noel later married Sir Piers Crosby in 1618/19.
After George Tuchet passed away, his son Mervyn took over his title as Earl of Castlehaven.
