Georgi Mikhaylovich Shchennikov (Russian: Георгий Михайлович Щенников; born 27 April 1991) is a Russian former footballer. He played as a left defensive midfielder or left-back. His father, Mikhail Shchennikov, was an Olympic medalist in race walking.

Playing for Clubs

Georgi Shchennikov started his professional football journey with CSKA Moscow. He played his very first game for the main team in the Russian Cup on 6 August 2008.
Interestingly, he made his debut in a big European competition, the UEFA Cup, before playing any games in Russia's main league! This happened on 24 October 2008 against Deportivo La Coruña.
In 2011, Georgi was one of 40 young players nominated for the "Golden Boy" award. This award is given to the best young footballer in Europe.
Big Goals in Europe
Georgi scored his first goal in the UEFA Champions League on 22 November 2017. This was a big moment for him and helped CSKA Moscow win 2–0 against Benfica.
He scored another memorable goal on 12 December 2018. This time, it was against the famous team Real Madrid in their home stadium, the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. CSKA Moscow won that game 3–0!
A Long Career at CSKA
Georgi Shchennikov signed a new five-year contract with CSKA Moscow on 5 June 2018. He spent 15 seasons playing for the club.
On 3 June 2023, Georgi played his last game for CSKA. It was a special farewell match where CSKA secured second place in the 2022–23 Russian Premier League.
Playing for Russia
Georgi also played for his country, Russia. He was part of the Russia under-21 team. They played in the qualification games for the 2011 European Under-21 Championship.
He made his debut for the senior national team on 15 August 2012. This was in a friendly game against Ivory Coast.
In 2014, Georgi was chosen to be part of Russia's team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This is one of the biggest football tournaments in the world!
