The Georgia-Pacific Tower is a very tall building, known as a skyscraper, in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. It is about 212 meters (697 feet) high. This building has 52 floors filled with offices. It was finished in 1982.
For a few years, from 1982 to 1987, it was the second tallest building in Atlanta. The Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel was the tallest during that time. The tower has a unique design that looks like stairs stepping down to the ground. It is covered in pink granite stone from Texas.

A Historic Location
The Georgia-Pacific Tower stands on a special spot. This was once the home of the Loew's Grand Theatre. This old theater was famous for hosting the very first showing, or premiere, of the classic 1939 movie Gone with the Wind.
The theater was considered a landmark, meaning it was an important historical place. Because of this, it could not be torn down. However, the theater sadly burned down in 1978. This fire cleared the way for the Georgia-Pacific Tower to be built there.
Who Designed and Built It?
The building was designed by a well-known group of architects called Skidmore, Owings & Merrill. They are famous for designing many tall and impressive buildings around the world.
The main companies that built the tower were J.A. Jones Construction Company and H.J. Russell Company. Both of these companies had offices right there in Atlanta.
What's Inside the Tower?
The Georgia-Pacific Tower is the main headquarters for the company Georgia-Pacific. A headquarters is the main office where a company's leaders work.
Other businesses also have offices in the tower. These include a consulting firm called McKinsey & Company. The downtown part of the High Museum of Art also opened a branch here in 1986.
Tornado Damage
On March 14, 2008, a tornado hit downtown Atlanta. The Georgia-Pacific Tower received only minor damage from the storm. A few windows were broken.
This was a very rare event. It was the first tornado to hit the downtown area since weather records began in the 1880s.
Filming Location
The building is also home to the Consulate-General of the United Kingdom. A consulate is like a small embassy that helps citizens from that country.
The tower was even used as a filming location for a movie! It appeared in the 1985 action film Invasion U.S.A.. In the movie, starring Chuck Norris, the tower was the setting for the final big fight.
