Georgiana is a small community located on Merritt Island in Brevard County, Florida. It sits at about 10 feet above sea level. You can find it about five miles south of the 520 Causeway. At this spot, Merritt Island is only about half a mile wide.

A Look Back in Time

Long ago, the land in Georgiana was used to grow yummy fruits like citrus and pineapples. In 1889, records show that 24 families, called homesteaders, lived and worked in this area. They were some of the first people to settle here.

The early land was divided into long, narrow strips. These strips stretched from the Indian River all the way to the Banana River. To help people get around, a walking path was created along the Indian River. This path, now called Old Settlement Road, connected the local post office and the place where riverboats would land.

The Georgianna Church, which used to be called the Georgianna United Methodist Church, was started in 1886. It has been a part of the community for a very long time. One of the oldest burial grounds in the area is Georgiana Cemetery. It is also known by the name Crooked Mile Cemetery.
