Early Life and Family
Gerard II de Lisle was born around 1304. His father was Sir Warin de Lisle, who lived at Kingston Lisle in Berkshire. His mother was Alice le Tyeys.
Gerard's family had a long history. His grandfather, Gerard I de Lisle, received the manor of Kingston. The family adopted a special coat of arms: a red shield with a silver lion standing and looking forward, wearing a gold crown.
Where He Lived
Gerard II de Lisle mainly lived at two places:
- Stowe Nine Churches in Northamptonshire
- Kingston Lisle in Berkshire (which is now part of Oxfordshire)
Military Career
Gerard became a knight in 1327. He was a brave soldier who served the English king in important battles.
Wars in Scotland
He fought in the Second War of Scottish Independence in 1333 and 1335. He served under Richard FitzAlan, 10th Earl of Arundel, a powerful English leader.
Hundred Years' War
Gerard also fought in France during the Hundred Years' War. He was part of the English army at the famous Battle of Crécy in 1346. This was a major victory for England.
Becoming a Baron
Gerard de Lisle was called to attend Parliament on 15 December 1357. This special invitation meant he became a Baron, known as Baron Lisle. He was also called to a Council meeting in 1358.

Gerard de Lisle was married two times and had several children.
First Marriage
His first wife was Eleanor de Arundel. They married after December 1329. Eleanor was the daughter of Edmund de Arundel, a powerful Earl. Gerard and Eleanor had one son:
- Sir Warin Lisle, 2nd Baron Lisle
Eleanor passed away before 1347.
Second Marriage
Gerard married his second wife, Elizabeth le Strange, before July 1351. Elizabeth was the daughter of Sir John le Strange, 2nd Baron Strange.
With Elizabeth, Gerard had two sons and one daughter:
- Richard de Lisle
- Henry de Lisle
- Elizabeth de Lisle, who married Sir Edmund de Stonor.
Elizabeth, Gerard's second wife, later married another nobleman, Richard de Pembridge. She died in 1362.
