Germagnat was once a small village, also known as a commune, located in eastern France. It was part of the Ain department.
On January 1, 2017, Germagnat joined with another area to form a new, larger commune called Nivigne et Suran. This means Germagnat is no longer a separate commune on its own.

The number of people living in Germagnat changed over the years. This is called its population.
- In 2006, about 133 people lived in Germagnat.
- By 2011, the population grew a bit to 146 people.
