Gerran Howell is an actor from Barry, Wales. He is best known for playing the main character in Young Dracula. This CBBC TV series first aired in 2006. In 2025, he started playing Dennis Whitaker, a medical student, in the new medical drama The Pitt on Max.

Gerran Howell's Early Life and Training

Gerran Howell grew up in Barry, a town in Wales. He went to Barry Comprehensive School. When he was young, he trained at an improvisation workshop in Cardiff. Later, he studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London.

Before his big roles, Gerran appeared in a short cinema ad. This ad warned people about the dangers of swimming in Welsh reservoirs. He also acted in a short film by Ellis Watts.

Gerran's Acting Career

Becoming a Vampire Star

Gerran Howell's first major acting job was in Young Dracula. This show is about a 13-year-old boy named Vlad and his family. They are vampires who move from Transylvania to a small town in Wales.

The first two seasons of Young Dracula were shown from 2006 to 2008. In the third and fourth seasons (2011–2012), Gerran played Vlad as a 17-year-old. By then, Vlad had full vampire powers and had to learn how to control them. The fifth and final season aired in early 2014.

Gerran also appeared on Blue Peter with his Young Dracula co-stars. They were part of the "Bake a Difference Appeal." He even filmed some behind-the-scenes footage of Young Dracula. He also showed up on Inside Out North West in a short sketch. Gerran was interviewed about the show and gave a quick tutorial, in character as Vlad, on how to spot a vampire.

Other Roles in TV and Film

Gerran has acted in several other short films and TV shows. He had a recurring role in the medical drama Casualty in 2006 and again in 2012.

In 2011, he played "Ernesto" in an episode of the CBBC drama The Sparticle Mystery. He returned for the second and third seasons of that show. He also appeared on CBBC's Hacker Time and 12 Again in 2012.

In 2019, Gerran Howell was in the miniseries Catch-22 as Kid Sampson. Later that year, he played Private Parry in the 2019 war film 1917.

In 2022, Gerran starred in Freedom's Path as William. He played a Union soldier who becomes friends with a runaway slave. In 2024, he appeared as DC Simon Evans in the TV series Ludwig.

Besides acting on screen, Gerran has also done voice-overs. He has lent his voice to radio adverts and video games.
