Gerry Bednob was born in Trinidad and Tobago. His family has roots in India. When he performs stand-up comedy, he sometimes jokes that he is from Bangladesh. This is because his grandfather came from a part of India that is now in Bangladesh.

Moving to Canada and Becoming a Comedian

In 1963, Gerry moved to Canada. He studied at the University of Toronto and earned a degree in sociology. For a while, he worked as a high school counselor.

Later, he decided to try stand-up comedy. He chose the stage name "Gerry Bednob" so his employer wouldn't know about his comedy career. He got the name from the movie Bedknobs and Broomsticks. He spent two years practicing his comedy skills at a club in Toronto.

Moving to Los Angeles

In the late 1970s, Gerry Bednob moved to Los Angeles, California. He later became an American citizen. Since then, he has continued to work as an actor and comedian.
