Gerry Niewood facts for kids
Gerry Niewood (born Gerard Joseph Nevidosky, April 6, 1943 – February 12, 2009) was an American jazz musician. He was known for playing the saxophone and flute. Gerry often worked with the famous jazz musician Chuck Mangione. Like Mangione, Gerry was born in Rochester, New York, and studied music at the Eastman School of Music.

Gerry Niewood's Musical Journey
Gerry Niewood started working with Chuck Mangione in 1968 and continued until 1976. After that, he led his own band with Dave Samuels. For most of his career, Gerry was a session musician. This means he played music for recordings and performances with many different artists, but he wasn't always the main star. He was a talented musician who could play many styles. In the 1990s, he returned to playing with Chuck Mangione. Sadly, Gerry Niewood and another band member, Coleman Mellett, died in a plane crash on February 12, 2009. The plane was Colgan Air Flight 3407.
