Gerwin Pardoel (born on May 12, 1981), known by his stage name Gers Pardoel or simply Gers, is a Dutch rapper. He became famous in 2009 after working with The Opposites on their hit song "Broodje Bakpao".
Gers Pardoel's first album, Deze wereld is van jou, came out in November 2011. It sold so well that it was certified Platinum. He is most famous for his number-one song "Ik neem je mee". This song became the biggest Dutch-language hit by a Dutch artist ever in the Dutch Top 40 music chart.
About Gers Pardoel
Early Life and Roller Skating (1981–2002)
Gerwin Pardoel was born in Nijmegen, Netherlands, on May 12, 1981. He has a younger twin brother named Robbie. When Gers was 17, his life changed a lot after his mother passed away. His home life became difficult.
To deal with this, Gers found comfort in roller skating. He was very dedicated and wanted to be one of the best roller skaters in the Netherlands. He practiced almost every day with friends, including Steffen Haars and Huub Smit, who are now known from the show New Kids. The roller skating hall became like a second home to him. He even reached ninth place in a national roller skating competition!
Starting His Music Career (2002–2010)
Later, Gers became interested in hip hop. In Rotterdam, he met a rapper named Postman. Postman and his wife, Anouk, helped Gers learn more about the hip hop world. They even came up with his stage name, Gers. It sounds like his real name, Gerwin, but "gers" also means "cool" in the Rotterdam dialect. Postman greatly influenced Gers's performing style.
Gers worked hard to improve his rapping and started making his own music. He showed some of his raps to his old friend Steffen Haars, who was now directing New Kids. Steffen was impressed and introduced Gers to other rappers, Sef and Big2. This led to them recording the song "Broodje Bakpao".
This song was a huge hit! It was part of the movie New Kids Turbo and reached number one on the Mega Single Top 100 chart. This success made Gers Pardoel very famous. Because of this, he signed a record deal with the Dutch music label TopNotch. His next success was the song "Ik ga hard," which he made with The Partysquad and other artists. It became very popular with teenagers.
New Albums and TV Appearances (2011–Present)
On October 14, 2011, Gers Pardoel released his first album, Deze wereld is van jou. He had been working on it since 2009! The second song from the album, "Ik neem je mee", became a massive hit. It reached number one on both the Dutch Top 40 and the Mega Single Top 100 charts. The album was certified Platinum, meaning it sold a lot of copies. Another popular song from the album was "Bagagedrager".
Three years later, in 2014, Gers released another album called De toekomst is van ons. While it wasn't as big as his first album, it included the Platinum-certified song "Louise."
Because of his music success in Belgium, Gers Pardoel became a coach on the Belgian TV show The Voice Kids for its fourth and fifth seasons. In 2022, he also became the host of the Flemish version of Come Dance With Me on the Play4 TV channel.
