Gers Pardoel's first album, Deze wereld is van jou, came out in November 2011. It sold many copies and earned a Platinum award. He is most famous for his number-one song "Ik neem je mee". This song became the biggest Dutch song ever in the Dutch Top 40 charts.
About Gers Pardoel
Early Life and Roller Skating
Gerwin Pardoel was born in Nijmegen, Netherlands, on May 12, 1981. He has a younger twin brother named Robbie. When Gers was young, his father worked at a nursing home and later at the Efteling theme park. His mother stayed home to care for the children.
When Gers was 17, his mother passed away. This was a very difficult time for him. To help him through this tough period, Gers found comfort in roller skating. He was a very dedicated roller skater and dreamed of becoming one of the best in the Netherlands. He practiced almost every day with friends, and the skate hall became like a second home. He even reached ninth place in a national roller skating competition.
Starting His Music Career
Gers Pardoel became very interested in hip hop. In Rotterdam, he met a rapper named Postman. Postman and his wife helped Gers learn more about the world of hip hop. They even gave him his stage name, Gers. This name sounds like his real name, Gerwin, but "gers" also means "cool" in the Rotterdam dialect. Postman greatly influenced Gers's performing style.
Gers worked hard to improve his rapping skills and also started making his own music. He began creating songs for a future album. He showed some of his raps to his old friend Steffen Haars, who was directing the show New Kids. Steffen was impressed and connected Gers with other rappers, Sef and Big2.
This led to them recording the song "Broodje Bakpao". This hit song was part of the New Kids Turbo movie soundtrack. It quickly reached number one on the Mega Single Top 100 chart, making Gers very famous. Because of this success, Gers signed a contract with the Dutch music label TopNotch. Another popular song for Gers was "Ik ga hard," which he made with The Partysquad and other artists. This song became a favorite among teenagers.
Albums and Success
On October 14, 2011, Gers Pardoel released his first album, Deze wereld is van jou. He had been working on it since 2009. The second song from the album, "Ik neem je mee", became a huge hit. It reached number one on both the Dutch Top 40 and the Mega Single Top 100 charts. The album itself received a Platinum award, meaning it sold a lot of copies. The album also included the popular song "Bagagedrager".
Three years later, in 2014, Gers released another album called De toekomst is van ons. While it wasn't as big as his first album, it did include the Platinum-certified song "Louise".
Gers Pardoel also became a coach on the Flemish version of The Voice Kids for its fourth and fifth seasons. In 2022, he became the host of the Flemish version of Come Dance With Me on the Play4 TV channel.
