Early Life and Education
Getter grew up in Tallinn, the capital city of Estonia. She finished high school in 2015. Besides being Estonian, she also has family roots from Russia.
Music and Acting Career
Getter Jaani first became famous in Estonia in 2009. This happened when she took part in the third season of Eesti otsib superstaari. This show is the Estonian version of the popular TV series Pop Idol. She finished fourth in the competition. Her strong performances on the show helped her get a role in the Estonian version of High School Musical, where she played the character of Sharpay Evans.
Eurovision Song Contest
In 2011, Getter Jaani was chosen to represent Estonia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. She performed her song "Rockefeller Street". The contest was a big event, and her song reached 24th place in the final round. The next year, in 2012, she announced the scores for Estonia during the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Dancing and Musicals
After her Eurovision appearance, Getter Jaani continued to be active. In 2011, she joined Tantsud tähtedega. This is the Estonian version of Dancing with the Stars, where celebrities team up with professional dancers. In 2013, she also got a main role in the musical Grease, playing the character of Sandy.
"Rockefeller Street" Meme
Getter Jaani's Eurovision song "Rockefeller Street" became very popular online years later. This happened because of an internet meme. A video of two Chinese men playing a faster version of the song on a rhythm game called osu! went viral. They also danced to the song, and their dance moves became popular on apps like TikTok and YouTube starting in 2018. Getter Jaani herself talked about this in 2019. She said that the faster, new version made her original song sound like a "great lullaby" in comparison.
