Geva Kate Mentor is a famous former England netball player. She was born on 17 September 1984. Geva has played for England in six Commonwealth Games. She helped the England team win a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
She also won bronze medals with England at the 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games. Geva also earned bronze medals at the 2011, 2015, and 2019 Netball World Cups. She was the captain for England at the 2015 Netball World Cup.
Geva Mentor played for many top netball clubs. She won titles with Team Bath in the Netball Superleague. She also won championships with Adelaide Thunderbirds and Melbourne Vixens in the ANZ Championship. Later, she captained Sunshine Coast Lightning to win two Suncorp Super Netball titles. From 2019, she was captain of the Collingwood Magpies.
At the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, Geva read the Athletes Oath during the opening ceremony. In 2019, she received a special award called a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for her amazing contributions to netball.
About Geva Mentor
Early Life and Family
Geva Mentor was born and grew up in Bournemouth, England. Her parents are Greg and Yvonne Mentor, and she has a brother named Raoul. Her mother's family has lived in the Dorset area for a long time. Her father came from Saint Lucia.
Geva went to St Peter's Catholic School. She also studied at the University of Bath. Later, she started studying for a teaching degree at the Swinburne University of Technology in Australia.
Personal Life and Achievements
Geva Mentor has lived in Australia since 2008. She became a citizen of both the United Kingdom and Australia in 2015. In 2019, Geva wrote a book about her life called Leap: Making the jump to take netball to the top of the world.
She has received two special honorary doctorates from universities. In 2022, a free fitness park was opened in Bournemouth and named The Geva Mentor Fitness Park. In 2024, she was invited to be the Performance Director for Netball France.

Playing for Clubs
Geva Mentor has played for many successful netball clubs.
Team Bath (2001–2007)
Geva started her career with Team Bath. She played for them in the AENA Super Cup and later in the Netball Superleague. In 2004, her team won the Super Cup.
Team Bath also won the very first Netball Superleague title in 2005–06. Geva was named the best player in the Grand Final when Team Bath won the title again in 2006–07.
Adelaide Thunderbirds (2008–2010)
In 2008, Geva moved to Australia to play in the ANZ Championship for Adelaide Thunderbirds. In 2010, her team won the championship. Geva was even named the best player in the ANZ Championship Grand Final that year.
Surrey Storm (2009–2010)
Geva also played a short time with Surrey Storm in the Netball Superleague. She and another player, Sonia Mkoloma, were the first to sign for the team when it was relaunched. They both returned to the ANZ Championship in 2010.
Melbourne Vixens (2011–2016)
From 2011 to 2016, Geva played for Melbourne Vixens in the ANZ Championship. In 2012, her team reached the Grand Final. Geva was chosen for the ANZ Championship All Star team and was named the Vixens' Best and Fairest player.
She was also in the All Star team in 2013. In 2014, Geva played her 100th ANZ Championship game. She was the first international player to reach this milestone. She helped the Vixens win the 2014 ANZ Championship. Geva also won the Vixens' Best and Fairest award, which was renamed the Sharelle McMahon Medal. She shared this award again in 2015.
Sunshine Coast Lightning (2017–2018)
In 2016, Geva joined Sunshine Coast Lightning in the new Suncorp Super Netball league. She became the captain of the team in 2017. Geva led the Lightning to win the Suncorp Super Netball titles in both 2017 and 2018.
She was named the Suncorp Super Netball Player of the Year in 2017. She was also chosen as the best goalkeeper in the Suncorp Super Netball Team of the Year in 2017 and 2018. In 2018, Geva played her 150th game in the ANZ Championship/Suncorp Super Netball leagues.
Collingwood Magpies (2019–2023)
From 2019, Geva played for Collingwood Magpies in Suncorp Super Netball. She was a co-captain of the team. Geva won the Magpies' best and fairest award in 2019 and 2020.
In 2020, she was again named the best goalkeeper in the Suncorp Super Netball Team of the Year. In 2021, Geva played her 200th game in the ANZ Championship/Suncorp Super Netball leagues.
Leeds Rhinos (2024)
In 2024, Geva returned to play netball in the UK for the Leeds Rhinos in the Netball Superleague. She was the captain of the team, which finished 5th.
Playing for England
Geva Mentor was first chosen for the senior England squad when she was just 15 years old in November 2000. She made her first official appearance for England on 11 July 2001, at age 16, against New Zealand.
Geva played in her first Commonwealth Games in 2002 and her first Netball World Cup in 2003. She helped England win bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games in 2006 and 2010. She also won bronze medals at the Netball World Cups in 2011, 2015, and 2019.
Geva was a very important player when England won the gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She was the captain for England at the 2015 Netball World Cup. On 18 May 2023, Geva announced she would stop playing international netball after the 2023 Netball World Cup.
