Ghassan Massoud (Arabic: غسّان مسعود; born September 20, 1958) is a famous actor and filmmaker from Syria. He is best known around the world for playing the role of Saladin in Ridley Scott's 2005 movie Kingdom of Heaven.

Ghassan Massoud's Acting Journey
Ghassan Massoud is a well-known actor in Syria. He has appeared in many Syrian films. He also wrote and directed a play called Diplomasiyyoun. In 2002, he was part of the Syrian National Theater.
Massoud has also acted in Syrian TV shows. These include The Chant of Rain and Memories of the Forthcoming Age. On stage, he performed in Miss Julie. More recently, he played Abu Bakr, a companion of Muhammad, in the TV series Omar.
His Roles in International Movies
Around the world, Ghassan Massoud is famous for playing the Ayyubid sultan Saladin. He played this role in Ridley Scott's 2005 film Kingdom of Heaven.
He also played the "Sheikh" in the 2006 Turkish movie Kurtlar Vadisi: Irak (Valley of the Wolves: Iraq). You might also know him as Ammand the Corsair from Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. In Ridley Scott's 2014 movie Exodus, he played Paser, who was a Grand Vizier to Ramesses II.
Massoud was offered a role in the 2005 film Syriana. However, he turned it down because he was worried the movie might show Arab people in a negative way. He also thought about the political situation in his country and the surrounding areas. After seeing the finished movie, he said he later wished he had taken the role.

Ghassan Massoud was born in Fajlit, a village in Duraykish District, Tartus Governorate, Syria.
He is married and has two children, a son and a daughter. Besides acting, Massoud teaches drama. He teaches at both the Damascus Music and Drama School and the Higher Institute for Dramatic Arts.
