This community is located about 11.3 miles northeast of Hudson. You can reach Ghent by following New York Route 66. Long ago, Ghent was home to a Mahican Native American village. It was called Squampamock, Scom-pa-muck, or Squampanoc.

Ghent is found in the northeastern part of the town of Ghent. Its exact location is 42°19′45″N 73°36′59″W / 42.32917°N 73.61639°W / 42.32917; -73.61639. A stream called Kline Kill forms its northern border. This stream flows north into Kinderhook Creek. Kinderhook Creek then joins the Hudson River.

How to Get Around Ghent

New York State Route 66 goes right through Ghent. This road connects Ghent to other important places. If you go southwest on Route 66 for about 11 miles, you'll reach Hudson. Hudson is the main town for Columbia County. If you travel northeast for about 2.5 miles, you'll arrive in Chatham.
