History of Gilbertsville
How Gilbertsville Got Its Name
The name Gilbertsville comes from a large family named Gilbert. This family moved to the area from Hoffenheim, Germany, in 1750. Hans George Gilbert and his sons, Bernhard and Johan, were among the first to settle here. They are buried in the New Hanover Evangelical Lutheran Churchyard. The village was originally part of a larger area called McCall's Manor.
