Gilles Bensimon was born in Vic-sur-Cère, a town in Cantal, France. When he was young, he had dyslexia. This made it hard for him to read and write. His mother suggested he try art to express himself. This led him to discover photography.
In 1967, Bensimon joined the French Elle magazine in Paris. Just two years later, he helped launch the American version of Elle. He quickly became known for his amazing photos of top models. These included famous names like Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, and Naomi Campbell.
