Christy Nicole Turlington Burns (born January 2, 1969) is an American fashion model. She became very famous in the late 1980s and early 1990s as a supermodel. She was the face of Calvin Klein's Eternity perfume in 1989 and again in 2014. She also works with Maybelline. Grace Coddington, a creative director for American Vogue magazine, once called Turlington "the most beautiful woman in the world."
Early Life and Education
Christy Turlington was born in Walnut Creek, California. She was the middle of three daughters. Her father, Dwain Turlington, was a pilot for Pan Am. Her mother, María Elizabeth, was a flight attendant from El Salvador. Christy was raised in her mother's Roman Catholic faith.
She was discovered by a photographer named Dennie Cody. This happened while she was riding a horse in Miami, Florida. Christy started modeling after school when she was 14. She also modeled during summers while attending Monte Vista High School.
After turning 18, she moved to New York City to model full-time. She later finished high school. In 1994, she went back to college. She graduated with honors in 1999 from New York University. There, she earned a degree focusing on different religions and philosophies. She continued her studies at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.

Personal Life
In 2000, Christy Turlington met actor, director, and writer Edward Burns at a party. They got engaged by the end of that year. They briefly split up in 2002 but got back together. They were married in June 2003 in San Francisco. Christy was pregnant at the time.
Burns and Turlington have two children. Their daughter, Grace, was born in 2003. Their son, Finn, was born in 2006. Christy's sister, Kelly, is married to Edward's brother, Brian Burns.
Christy used to smoke. Her father died of lung cancer. Because of this, Christy is now an anti-smoking activist. She started smoking at 13 and smoked a pack a day by age 16. She quit smoking when she was 26. In 2000, at age 31, she had a lung scan. Doctors found early signs of emphysema.
Yoga Practice
Christy Turlington practices yoga, specifically a type called Jivamukti. She has been doing yoga since 1987. She once said she practiced three times a week in the mornings. She believes yoga has helped her feel closer to her Catholic faith.
