George L. Fox served as a minister at a Methodist church in Gilman. He is famous for being one of the Four Chaplains. These four brave chaplains were ministers from different faiths who were on board the troop transport ship Dorchester during World War II.

When the ship was attacked and began to sink, the chaplains helped calm the soldiers and organize the evacuation. They famously gave up their own life jackets to save other soldiers who didn't have any. All four chaplains went down with the ship, showing incredible courage and sacrifice. They are remembered as heroes for their selfless actions.
