History of Lunenburg
Lunenburg was officially given its name on July 5, 1763. This happened when Benning Wentworth, who was the royal governor of New Hampshire, approved it. He granted the land to David Page and 68 other people.
Many people believe that David Page chose the town's name. It is thought to come from a title of Prince Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand of Brunswick-Lunenburg.
A famous person from Lunenburg was Adino Nye Bell. He served as a Vermont State Representative, which means he helped make laws for the state. Lunenburg is also said to have inspired a poem by the famous writer Robert Frost. His poem, "The Mountain," is set in a town called Lunenburg.
