Giorgio Vanni (born August 19, 1963) is a famous Italian singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He is best known for singing the theme songs of many popular cartoon shows in Italy, like Pokémon and Dragon Ball.

About Giorgio Vanni

Early Music Days (1963–1995)

Giorgio Vanni was born in Milan, Italy, on August 19, 1963. He grew up loving music, thanks to his parents. When he was just 13, he started his first band called Luti's Band. A couple of years later, he discovered reggae music, especially from Bob Marley.

In 1980, Giorgio started a pop-rock band called Tomato with his friends Paolo Costa and Claudio D'Onofrio. They soon caught the attention of Italian music producer Roberto Colombo. In 1983, Giorgio sang a song called The Island of the Sun using the name 'Iudy'. The band also worked with famous artists like Miguel Bosé.

In 1991, after working with many other musicians, Tomato released their first album, also called Tomato. In 1992, Giorgio and his band took part in the important Sanremo Music Festival with their song Sai cosa sento per te. Even though they didn't win, it was a big step. After the festival, the band broke up. In 1994, Giorgio released his first solo album, Grande Cuore.

Working with Max Longhi (1996–1998)

In 1996, Giorgio met musician Max Longhi. They started working together on TV music shows and creating short songs for commercials, like for Coca-Cola.

In 1998, Giorgio and Max wrote a song called Buone verità for the famous singer Laura Pausini. This song was also translated into Spanish.

Later that year, Vanni and Longhi met Alessandra Valeri Manera, a leader at the Mediaset TV company. She loved their music style, and they began creating opening themes for many animated TV shows. Giorgio sang the words for these songs. Their first cartoon theme, Superman, was released on Cristina D'Avena's album Fivelandia 16.

Cartoon Theme Song Success (1999–2008)

In 1999, Giorgio and Max wrote the Italian opening themes for Pokémon and Dragon Ball. These shows became super popular in Italy, and their theme songs became some of Giorgio's most famous tunes.

Giorgio also started working with Cristina D'Avena, another very popular singer of Italian cartoon themes. They wrote many songs together, including Imbarchiamoci per un grande viaggio and Hello Sandybell.

In 2000, new theme songs were made for Pokémon and Dragon Ball, like What's my destiny Dragon Ball, which became even more iconic. Giorgio also sang his first duet with Cristina D'Avena for the show Rossana.

Because dance music was so popular, Giorgio and Max created "remix" albums called Cartuno. In 2002, they even started their own record company called LoVa Music. The name "LoVa" comes from the first two letters of their last names, Longhi and Vanni.

In 2003, they wrote a song called Super Lover - I need you tonight for a Japanese group called W-inds. This song became a huge hit in Japan.

From 2001 to 2003, Giorgio and Max wrote many theme songs for cartoons and anime like Hamtaro, Doraemon, and Ma che magie Doremì, which Cristina D'Avena sang. Giorgio also sang themes for shows like Yu-Gi-Oh!, Detective Conan, and Maledetti scarafaggi.

From 2004 to 2008, Giorgio Vanni wrote and released over 50 theme songs that he sang himself, including He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and Keroro. He also sang duets with Cristina D'Avena for shows like Pokémon Advanced.

Live Shows and New Albums (2009–2013)

Since 2009, Giorgio has performed live concerts at comic conventions all over Italy, starting with Lucca Comics & Games. He realized that even though he wrote music for kids, adults loved it too! During this time, he and Max wrote Blue Dragon (sung by him and Cristina) and Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Runner.

At the end of 2010, Giorgio released his first album focused on American animated series, called Giorgio Vanni Project - I cartoni di Italia1.

In 2011, he wrote "Beyblade Metal". During a break from writing new themes for Mediaset, Giorgio and Max worked on a new album. On July 4, 2012, they released Time Machine - Da Goldrake a Goku. This album was a tribute to older cartoon songs and artists.

More Hits and Returns to Cartoons (2014–2015)

On May 27, 2014, Giorgio released Super Hits - Il meglio del meglio del meglio. This album included his solo songs from 1998 to 2014, plus new songs like Hover Champs! and Conan, il detective più famoso.

In 2015, after four years, he returned to writing Italian opening themes for RTI. He wrote Lupin, un ladro in vacanza for Lupin III - L'avventura italiana. This song was a duet with Italian rapper Moreno, which caused a lot of discussion online.

In November 2015, some of Giorgio's songs written for Cristina D'Avena, like Principesse gemelle and All'arrembaggio!, were released on vinyl records.

Giorgio's live shows also changed, including new cover songs and DJ sets of his remixed tunes.

YouTube and Toon Tunz (2016–2019)

In August 2016, Giorgio released a music video for his song Pokémon Go, which he created with Max Longhi and Alessandra Valeri Manera. This song came out during the huge worldwide success of the game.

Later that year, Mediaset wanted a new Italian theme song for Dragon Ball Super. Even though it wasn't used for the TV show, the song, Dragon Ball Super Kame Hame Ha, was released on Giorgio's YouTube channel on December 23.

In 2017, Giorgio, Max, and Alessandra composed a new song for Cristina D'Avena called Noi Puffi siam così. Giorgio also helped with a project to raise money for a music school after an earthquake, singing a song called Alza gli occhi e vai with other musicians.

On July 21, Giorgio released Sole e Luna, a reggaeton song for the anime Pokémon: Sun and Moon. In November, a new version of Time Machine - Da Goldrake a Goku was released, called "Time Machine Reloaded".

During this time, Giorgio often worked with Italian YouTubers, creating new music and promotional content. He sang for prank videos and collaborated on funny parodies.

In 2018, he sang on a dance song called Supereroi for Dj Matrix and Matt Joe's album. He also wrote new theme songs for different TV networks, including Lupin ladro full-time for Lupin the Third Part 5 and Gormiti the Legend is Back for RAI.

In 2019, he worked with Dj Matrix and Matt Joe again on a new song called Onda dopo onda.

Since January 2019, Giorgio and Max Longhi have been working on a new album. The song Dragon Ball Super Kame Hame Ha was also released on a special vinyl record to help raise money for an Italian web radio station called RadioAnimati.

On April 18, 2019, Giorgio announced the name of his new album, Toon Tunz. The name is a fun mix of "cartoon" and the "Tunz Tunz" sound often used to describe dance music. This album brought together his recent songs from 2016 to 2019.
