About Giorgio Vanni
Early Music Journey (1963–1995)
Giorgio Vanni was born in Milan, Italy, on August 19, 1963. He grew up loving music because his parents were big music fans. When he was 13, in 1976, he started his first band called Luti's Band. Two years later, he discovered reggae music after hearing Bob Marley's Babylon by Bus.
In 1980, Giorgio formed his first professional pop-rock band, Tomato, with Paolo Costa and Claudio D'Onofrio. In 1982, a famous Italian producer, Roberto Colombo, noticed them. Tomato released their first single, Tam Tam, in 1984. They even worked with Mike Ogletree, a drummer from the band Simple Minds.
In 1991, after working with many artists like Eugenio Finardi, Tomato released their first album, also called Tomato. The next year, in 1992, Giorgio and his band took part in the important Sanremo Music Festival. They sang the song Sai cosa sento per te but did not win. After the festival, the band Tomato broke up. In 1994, Giorgio released his first solo album, Grande Cuore.
Working with Max Longhi (1996–1998)
In 1996, Giorgio met musician Max Longhi, and they started working together. They created music for TV shows and made catchy jingles for commercials, like "Always Coca Cola."
In 1998, Giorgio and Max wrote a song called Buone verità for the famous singer Laura Pausini. This song was also translated into Spanish. Later that year, Giorgio and Max met Alessandra Valeri Manera, who was in charge of music for Mediaset television. She loved their dance music style. They agreed to create theme songs for many animated TV shows. Giorgio sang the words for these songs. Their first cartoon song was Superman, which appeared on Cristina D'Avena's album Fivelandia 16.
Cartoon Theme Song Success (1999–2008)
In 1999, Giorgio and Max wrote the Italian theme songs for Pokémon and Dragon Ball. These shows became super popular in Italy, and their theme songs became some of Giorgio Vanni's most famous songs.
Giorgio also started working with Cristina D'Avena, another very popular singer of Italian cartoon theme songs. They wrote many songs together, including Imbarchiamoci per un grande viaggio, Hello Sandybell, and Una giungla di avventure per Kimba.
In 2000, new theme songs were made for the second seasons of Pokémon and Dragon Ball. These were Pokémon: Oltre i cieli dell'avventura and What's my destiny Dragon Ball. The Dragon Ball song became even more iconic than the first one. That same year, Giorgio sang his first duet with Cristina D'Avena for the show Rossana (known as Kodomo no omocha in Japan).
Because dance music was so popular, Giorgio and Max created "remix" albums called Cartuno. In 2002, Giorgio and Max started their own music company called LoVa Music. The name "LoVa" comes from the first two letters of their last names: Longhi and Vanni.
In 2003, they wrote a song called Super Lover - I need you tonight for the Japanese group W-inds. This song was a huge hit in Japan and sold a lot of copies.
From 2001 to 2003, Giorgio and Max wrote many theme songs for cartoons and anime. Cristina D'Avena sang songs like All'arrembaggio!, Hamtaro piccoli criceti, grandi avventure, and Doraemon. Giorgio also sang many of his own theme songs, such as Yu-Gi-Oh!, Detective Conan, L'incredibile Hulk, and Maledetti scarafaggi.
From 2004 to 2008, Giorgio Vanni wrote and released over 50 theme songs that he sang himself, like He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and Io credo in me. He also wrote songs for Cristina, like Mirmo and Hamtaro. They even sang duets for shows like Pokémon Advanced and Zip e Zap.
Live Shows and New Albums (2009–2013)
Since 2009, Giorgio has performed live concerts at comic conventions all over Italy. His first big show was at Lucca Comics & Games. He realized that even though he wrote music for kids, adults loved it too! During this time, he and Max wrote Blue Dragon, which Giorgio and Cristina sang together. He also sang a new version of Io credo in me.
At the end of 2010, Giorgio released his album Giorgio Vanni Project - I cartoni di Italia1. This album featured his songs for American animated shows. In 2011, he wrote "Beyblade Metal."
Giorgio and Max then worked on a new album called Time Machine - Da Goldrake a Goku, which came out on July 4, 2012. This album was a tribute to older cartoon songs and artists. It included a mix of songs from the 80s and 2000s.
New Hits and Returns (2014–2015)
On May 27, 2014, Giorgio released Super Hits - Il meglio del meglio del meglio. This album included his best songs from 1998 to 2014, plus new songs like Hover Champs! and Conan, il detective più famoso.
In 2015, after four years, he returned to writing theme songs for RTI. He wrote the Italian opening for Lupin III - L'avventura italiana, called Lupin, un ladro in vacanza. This song was a duet with the Italian rapper Moreno. This caused a lot of discussion online, and some people even started petitions to change the theme song.
In November 2015, three of Giorgio's songs that he wrote for Cristina D'Avena were released on vinyl records. These included Principesse gemelle, Doraemon, and All'arrembaggio!. The song Rossana was also re-released.
Giorgio also changed his live shows, adding new cover songs like an acoustic version of Capitan Harlock. He and Max also started using a DJ set for their remixed songs.
YouTube and Toon Tunz (2016–2019)
In August 2016, Giorgio released a music video for his song Pokémon Go. He wrote this song with Max Longhi and Alessandra Valeri Manera during the huge success of the Pokémon Go game. The song was also available to buy online.
At the end of 2016, Mediaset bought Dragon Ball Super and wanted a new Italian theme song. Giorgio and Max wrote Dragon Ball Super Kame Hame Ha, but it wasn't used for the TV show. However, Giorgio released the song on his YouTube channel on December 23, the same day Dragon Ball Super started airing in Italy.
After five years, Giorgio Vanni, Max Longhi, and Alessandra Valeri Manera wrote a new song for Cristina D'Avena called Noi Puffi siam così, which came out on March 16, 2017. Giorgio also helped raise money for a music school in Amatrice after an earthquake. He sang with other musicians on a new song called Alza gli occhi e vai.
On July 21, Giorgio released Sole e Luna, a reggaeton song about the anime Pokémon: Sun and Moon. On November 24, he released a new version of Time Machine - Da Goldrake a Goku, called "Time Machine Reloaded."
During this time, Giorgio often worked with Italian YouTubers. He sang Santa Claus Is Coming to Town for a prank video and Bruco Gianluco for the cartoonist and YouTuber Sio. He also made funny videos with iPantellas.
In 2018, he sang on a new dance song called Supereroi for Dj Matrix and Matt Joe's album. He also wrote new theme songs for TV networks, like Lupin ladro full-time and Rubami ancora il cuore for Lupin the Third Part 5. He also sang the Italian versions of theme songs for Cardfight!! Vanguard: Asia Circuit. He then wrote and sang Gormiti the Legend is Back for the Italian TV channel RAI.
In 2019, he worked with Dj Matrix and Matt Joe again on their album, releasing a new song called Onda dopo onda.
Since January 2019, Giorgio has been working on a new album with Max Longhi. The single Dragon Ball Super Kame Hame Ha was released on a special vinyl record. This was to raise money for the Italian web radio RadioAnimati, which Giorgio often works with.
On April 18, 2019, Giorgio announced the name of his new album, Toon Tunz. The name is a fun mix of "cartoon" and "Tunz Tunz," which is a way to describe LoVa Music's dance sound. This album was the first to officially release his songs from 2016 to 2019.
