Growing Up: A Creative Childhood
Miguel Bosé was born in Panama City, Panama. His mother was Lucia Bosè, a well-known Italian actress, and his father was Luis Miguel Dominguín, a famous Spanish bullfighter. Miguel grew up in a home filled with art and culture. Famous artists like Pablo Picasso and writer Ernest Hemingway were close family friends. The film director Luchino Visconti was even his godfather.
Miguel Bosé's Career
Miguel Bosé started his career as an actor in 1971. He appeared in many movies. People quickly noticed his talent and good looks, not just his famous family. He studied acting, dancing, and singing to improve his skills.
Becoming a Singer
Because there were not many acting roles available, Miguel started exploring his singing talent in 1975. With help from singer Camilo Sesto, he recorded his first songs. In 1977, Bosé signed a contract with CBS Records. He stayed with them until 1984.
His first album, Linda, came out with CBS Records. It included his first hit song, also called "Linda." Between 1977 and 1982, Miguel Bosé was a huge teen idol. He was very popular in Italy, Spain, Southern Europe, and all of Latin America. He had seven songs that reached the top ten, making him a star at many televised music festivals.
Changing His Style
By 1983, his popularity in Italy had lessened, and he mostly performed in Latin America. In 1984, Miguel Bosé changed his musical style. He started making music for an older audience. His album Bandido showed this change. It included popular songs like "Sevilla" and "Amante bandido." "Amante bandido" became a number one hit in Spain and Latin America. The music video for this song was also very popular. In the video, Bosé played a superhero and an adventurer, similar to Indiana Jones.
In Italy, where he also sang in Italian and English, his biggest success came in 1994. He won the Festivalbar, a major music event, for the third time.
Papito: Duets with Stars
On March 20, 2007, Miguel Bosé released Papito. This album celebrated his 30 years as a singer. It featured new versions of his old songs, sung as duets with many famous artists. Some of these artists included Juanes, Alejandro Sanz, Shakira, Ricky Martin, and Laura Pausini.
Three songs from Papito were released as singles. The first was a new version of his hit "Nena," featuring Mexican superstar Paulina Rubio. The second was "Morena Mía," with Mexican-American singer Julieta Venegas. The third single, "Como un lobo," featured his niece Bimba Bosé. "Nena" was the most successful song from the album. It was nominated for a Latin Grammy award and became the best-selling download in Spain in 2007. That same year, Bosé received the Billboard Latin Music Lifetime Achievement Award.
In 2008, the President of Colombia offered Miguel Bosé Colombian citizenship. This was because of his efforts to help bring peace to Colombia, including performing in two concerts. On March 16, 2010, he officially became a Colombian citizen.
Papitwo: More Collaborations
On September 4, 2012, Miguel Bosé released Papitwo. This album was a follow-up to his successful Papito album. It also featured new versions of his well-known songs, with many different artists. Some collaborators included Juanes, Bimba Bosé, Alejandro Sanz, Pablo Alborán, and Juan Luis Guerra. Even Hollywood actress Penélope Cruz sang on a new song called "Decirnos Adiós."
The album came in two versions. A single disc had 14 remade hits with different artists. A deluxe version included another CD with 14 collaborations Miguel Bosé had done throughout his career. The album release happened at the same time as Bosé's "Papitwo" Tour, which began in Madrid.
Miguel Bosé was honored as the Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year on November 20, 2013.
Bosé MTV Unplugged: Live Performances
On October 7, 2016, he released Bosé MTV Unplugged. This was a live album with new versions of his songs, performed as duets with artists like Sasha Sokol, Pablo Alborán, and Marco Antonio Solís. Four singles were released from this album. These included "Bambú" with Fonseca, "Gulliver" with Natalia Lafourcade, and "Olvídame tú" with Marco Antonio Solís. "Estaré" was the fourth single, released in February 2017.
In February 2018, Miguel Bosé performed at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival in Chile to a sold-out crowd. He sang "Si Tú No Vuelves" with the American duo Ha*Ash. In December 2019, Bosé was featured on Ha*Ash's single "Si Tú No Vuelves" from their live album.
Personal Life
Miguel Bosé has four children. His niece, Bimba Bosé, who was also a singer and model, passed away from cancer on January 23, 2017.
