Luis Miguel González Lucas (born November 9, 1926 – died May 8, 1996) was a famous bullfighter from Spain. He was better known as Luis Miguel Dominguín. His father, Domingo Dominguín, was also a well-known bullfighter. Luis Miguel used his father's name to become more popular.

Becoming a Bullfighter

Luis Miguel Dominguín first appeared in a bullring when he was only eleven years old. He officially became a matador, a main bullfighter, in 1941. He became very popular in the 1940s and 1950s. People knew him in Spain, Portugal, Colombia, and other countries.

He was present at a famous bullfight in Linares, Spain, on August 28, 1947. Another famous bullfighter and his rival, Manolete, was also performing that day.

Life Outside the Ring

Dominguín was also known for his social life. He had many famous friends, including the artist Pablo Picasso. He also had relationships with well-known people like American actress Ava Gardner.

In 1955, he married actress Lucia Bosè. They had a son named Miguel Bosé, who later became a Grammy-award winning singer. Dominguín also appeared in a few movies. He usually played himself in small roles. These movies included Around the World in 80 Days (1956) and Testament of Orpheus (1960).

In 1959, he had a friendly rivalry with his brother-in-law, Antonio Ordóñez, in the bullfighting world. This competition was written about in a book by Ernest Hemingway called The Dangerous Summer. Ordóñez won this friendly contest.

Later Years and Retirement

Dominguín retired from bullfighting for a while. But in 1971, when he was 45 years old, he decided to return to the bullring. He wanted to understand why the sport was still so appealing to him. His comeback fight was in Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands. For this event, he wore a special bullfighting costume called the "suit of lights." This suit was designed for him by his friend, the artist Pablo Picasso.

Even though he was older, some people still thought he was amazing. Actress Deborah Kerr, who watched him, said, "He is still the greatest bull-fighter." He retired for good in 1973.

Family Life

Marriage to Lucia Bosè

Lucia Bosè was an Italian actress and a former Miss Italy. She traveled to Madrid to film a movie. There, she met Luis Miguel Dominguín. At first, she thought he was a bit boastful. But soon, she became interested in him. He asked her to marry him before they had even kissed. They got married in Las Vegas on March 1, 1955.

Lucia later shared that their first year of marriage was challenging. She did not speak Spanish, and he did not speak Italian. She felt that their passion grew because they did not fully understand each other at first. The problems started when they began to understand each other better.

Their first son, singer Miguel Bosé, was born in Panama in 1956. They later had two daughters, Lucia (born 1957) and Paola (born 1960). Lucia and Luis Miguel were married for many years. However, their differences grew over time. Lucia was not very interested in bullfighting, which was a big part of Luis Miguel's life.

Second Marriage

Luis Miguel and Lucia Bosè divorced in 1968. In 1987, he married Rosario Primo de Rivera. She was the niece of José Antonio Primo de Rivera, a Spanish politician.

Death

Luis Miguel Dominguín passed away from heart failure in 1996. He was 69 years old. He is buried in the cemetery in Guadiaro, near Sotogrande in Spain.
