Giovane Farinazzo Gavio (born September 7, 1970), known simply as Giovane, is a famous Brazilian former volleyball player and coach. He was a key member of the Brazil men's national volleyball team. He helped his team win a gold medal at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. They won by beating the Netherlands in the final match.

Giovane played as an outside hitter, a position important for both attacking and defending. He competed in three Olympic Games, starting in 1992. After his indoor volleyball career, he also played beach volleyball.

A Champion Player: Olympic Gold

Giovane Gavio was a star player for the Brazilian national volleyball team. He was part of the team that won the gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. This was a huge moment for Brazilian volleyball.

More International Success

Giovane continued to achieve great things with the national team. He won another Olympic gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He also helped Brazil win the 2002 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship in Argentina. In 2003, his team won the 2003 FIVB Men's World Cup in Japan. These wins showed how strong the Brazilian team was with Giovane.

From Player to Coach

After a successful playing career, Giovane Gavio became a volleyball coach. He coached SESI São Paulo, a top team in Brazil's Superliga. He made history by becoming one of the few people to win the Superliga as both a player and a coach. This shows his deep understanding of the game.

Hall of Fame Recognition

In 2021, Giovane Gavio was honored for his amazing career. He was inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame. This special award recognizes the greatest volleyball players and coaches from around the world.

Throughout his career, Giovane received several individual awards for his skills:

  • In 1989, he was named the "Best Blocker" at the FIVB World Cup.
