Glady is a small place in Randolph County, West Virginia, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's managed by the county.
Glady is about 11 miles (18 kilometers) southeast of a larger town called Elkins. For many years, Glady had its own post office, which helped people send and receive mail. However, this post office closed on May 14, 2011.
The name "Glady" comes from the word "glades." Glades are open, grassy areas, often found in forests. These glades were located along the Glady Fork River, which is a nearby waterway. The early settlers named the community after these natural clearings.
Understanding Glady's Climate
The weather in Glady is generally mild, meaning it doesn't have huge differences between very hot and very cold temperatures. There's also a good amount of rain throughout the year.
What is a Marine West Coast Climate?
According to a system that classifies climates around the world, Glady has what's called a "marine west coast climate." This type of climate is often found near oceans, even though Glady isn't right on the coast. It means the summers are usually cool, and the winters are mild. You'll also find plenty of rainfall all year long, which helps plants and trees grow well. On climate maps, this type of weather is often shown as "Cfb."
