Glasford's Story: How It Began
Glasford was founded by a man named Samuel Alexander Glasford. He arrived in Peoria County in 1842. Samuel Glasford saw a great opportunity when a railroad was built near his farm.
He decided to create a town where cornfields used to be. On December 9, 1868, he officially laid out the town. It became a village in 1889.
The new railroad, called the Toledo, Peoria and Warsaw Railroad, helped the town grow. Many new settlers and stores came to Glasford. Over the years, the village has been called by different names, like Glasco and Glassford.

Near Glasford, there's a special area called the "Glasford Disturbance." This is where the layers of rock underground are very mixed up. Over time, glaciers filled the crater with dirt and rocks, so you can't see it on the surface today.
